There was an anti-bot proposal put out this week in Splinterlands which I voted against not so much because I like bots but because of some other reasons...

The Number of Bots in the Game Years ago, the bot farms that leeched rewards were a big problem while now the number went up like crazy as there are many services that allow real players to automate their play with a bot service. If is fairly easy to see how many bots are playing the game compared to regular players just by looking at your opponents their history. If there is a steady play of games between a fixed time interval, you can be sure it's a bot that plays the games.

I would say that by far the majority of the games in Splinterlands right now are played by bots and it's arguably growing as the time required each day to get the most out of it simply isn't realistic.

The Problem With Bots... I would say that the reward farming right now is far less of a problem with all the measures that have been taken and the main issue is that many of these bots just know how to play quite optimal giving them an unfair advantage over most human players. From what I hear this is mainly the case at the lower levels making the new user experience really bad as it's hard for beginners who are learning to win playing against bots that play optimally all the time. Personally, I tend to play manually still even though I have splintermate (which actually isn't that good of a bot I would argue) to play for me at times when I just don't want to put in the daily grind. However, I would prefer to always play against real human players

The Good Thing About Bots... While there clearly is a lot of downside about bots, they realistically are also a big part of the player base, and if all regular players that used a bot as a way to fully automate their play or use it to help them save time left, the entire economy would crash pretty much. All accounts need to hold card that were bought or rented to play and they help the economy in a way.

Why I voted NO on the Proposal... https://images.hive.blog/DQmRXDHgq1r1gDbN8AyNqxVm3yBdMfjFPogsa7R4eWzJLrR/image.png

While I'm all for having a part of the game where using bots is not allowed and human players get to actually play against other real human players, this current idea of having Modern as this format to do this while bots are allowed in Wild is just horrible. The main reason for this I see is that the devs need to sell packs so they get $$$ and the best way to do this is to screw over players that already have a large collection with less incentive to buy even more cards.

If bots were only allowed in Wild, 80% of the battles would have to move there making both the rewards, the value of the older card assets and the player experience a lot less attractive while the Modern format would be a lot more attractive.

So for that reason I voted NO. I like the idea of in-game assets having a limited supply which somewhat makes their value go up over time as long as more players come in but in reality this simply hasn't been the case since way too many cards are printed compared to how many players come in.

Other Solutions I don't have a clear-cut solution for the issue and I like the fact that they are thinking of implementing something to make it so that human players can actually get to play against other human players even though this likely will result in players using solvers that help them make the most optimal line-ups. I would say that bots for sure have their place in the game but the current proposal solutions just isn't a good one which also shows in the votes right now as it likely will fail to pass.

Conclusion

My main fear for the current bot solution is that the main reasons it's designed like that is to make Modern League far more attractive in order to help driving pack sales of the upcoming Rebellion Set. Wild format will be completely destroyed in rewards and fun since roughly 80%+ of all battles played right now are bots. I'm hoping this proposal fails and a better one is come up with!
