Amazon & Cryptocurrency - It’s Finally Happening!

Today, July 23, 2021, Amazon made it apparent they are looking to explore further into the digital space. As seen here, they’ve expressed their interest in hiring for a position within the world of digital currency and blockchain technology. Specifically, it’s within the Amazon Payments team.

According to an Amazon spokesperson, Amazon, “is inspired by the constant innovation within the cryptocurrency space.”. This news is huge for the crypto community and market and, if you’ve been watching the charts today, you can already see investors feeding off of this news.  

Amazon already has a pull in dominating the online space. Not only with retail but also with their cloud-computing division called Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS provides networking capabilities alongside remote computing, storage, email services, mobile development, and, of course, security.

This follows shortly after Apple announced that they are looking for alternative payment methods for their ecosystem back in May 2021. Within AWS, there’s already a section labeled “Amazon Managed Blockchain”. This has been around for quite some time now but hasn’t offered to accept cryptocurrency in any capacity… but it appears that will soon change.  

Amazon showing interest in cryptocurrency could be the turn of the century for the market. Holding their title as the largest internet company in the world by revenue, it’s no surprise that they would pursue this route. Ordering your favorite items online while paying with a digital currency… what’s not to love? I’m excited to see where this goes and how quickly it’s implemented!
