I recently saw that I have some IUC tokens in my Hive Engine wallet.

Of course, I dug deeper to learn what it is.

Turns out it's none other than the new token from the Indiaunited community.

There was a post about the establishment of the IUC (India United Coin) which I missed reading when it came out. It talks about what its use cases are, and how to buy them. This is the link:

The current number of active users is less than 100 as shown in the image clipped from PeakD above. However, I suspect way more people benefited from the curation of the Indiaunited community than this number.

I am one of those whose posts get curated by them occasionally.

Curation benefits aside. It is intriguing to imagine how a nation-based token on Hive can bring about further use cases and more engagement.

My first reaction is "Great, we finally have an Indian Rupee clone of sorts on Hive". Given that India is such a big nation with a huge population, even when a small fraction of them sees a use case of IUC, it is going to be phenomenal for the adoption of Hive.

My imagination already got ahead of me. Forget about the on-ramp of fiat to Hive by the masses in India. If a strong community of Indians was to participate in the Indiaunited community by posting, and if they can earn IUC substantially through it, it can become the currency for an economy for the community. All these are possible if Indiaunited becomes a community of well-loved content written by its members, and gradually accumulates HP to give IUC value somehow. What Hive needs now most is people giving real value to the network by producing useful and desirable content. This is what will attract eyeball from the rest, necessary to grow Hive.

Just imagine, as an example, if a huge population of Indian computer science experts (and there're plenty of them around) teaching coding, creating new apps for Hive, and earning IUC through such activities somehow. Then having the avenue to spend IUC in their local shops, because the shop owners want to participate in the Hive economy! Such collective economic activities could well grow into different shapes and form we cannot yet imagine!

Indeed, India United Coin showed me a glimpse of the potential for a nation-based token on Hive even though I don't think they themselves planned any of these. Yet.

In my mind, I know it is easier for people of the same country to huddle together because of common experiences and familiarity. There we have it, a tendency for collective behavior as a nation, and yet we don't see many of these nation-based communities and tokens on Hive.

The potential for nation-based tokens on Hive could be huge. Why don't you start something for your nation?

ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU... :)
