Burning Splinterlands cards it’s mechanism to convert your cards in the in game token DEC that is liquid and can be traded/used easily. In a way it provides a base level price and liquidity for the cards.

Here we will be looking at the numbers for cards burnt by edition and rarity. Which cards have been burnt the most?

Breakdown of the numbers of cards burnt per edition will be made, ALPHA, BETA, REWARDS, PROMO and UNTAMED.

The data for the cards burnt is until January 7th, 2021.

I have made a report like this seven months ago, Burning Splinterlands Cards and its about time to revisit.

For visibility I will include only the top 20 in each edition.

ALPHA Cards Burnt

Starting with ALPHAs. Here is the chart.

Regular foil

Alphas are long out of print, but there is some burning in this edition as well. The top spot with almost 3600 cards burnt is for the Minotaur Warrior, followed by Giant Rock and Spineback Wolf. We can see there is cards burns for the Alpha edition, but still not as much. Compared to the other editions that we will see below they are low.

The Alpha Minotaur Warrior atm is priced at 0.15$ and it has only 30 DEC. Meaning that the DEC value is around 2 to 3 cents. There is burning of this card happening in the last months as well. Probably people get impatient waiting for them to sell and they burnt it fro a fraction of the market price.

Gold foil

Here is the chart for Alpha Gold foils cards burns.

The Minotaur Warrior is leading here as well. Almost 300 gold foil cards burnt. The Animated Corpse and the Rexxie follows but at much lower numbers.

BETA Cards Burnt

Next, the beta edition.

Regular foil

The Beta edition is also long out of print.

The Animated Corpse is at the top here with more than 20k cards burnt, followed by the Silvershield Warrior and the Minotaur Warrior.

We can notice the numbers are bigger for the Beta edition, than the Alphas, 20k to 3k for the top ones, and that is understandable.

Gold foil

Rexxie on the top from the Gold foil Beta edition with almost 2k cards burnt, followed by Animated Corpse and Spineback Wolf.

PROMO Cards Burnt

The promo cards were exclusive to promotions before but recently Orbs are rewarded for quests and season endings. This can increase the burn rate a bit. Here are the promo charts.

Regular foil

Delwyn Dragonscale, the dragon common magic summoner is no.1 here followed by the Molten Ogre and the Enchanted Defender.

We can notice a sharp drop here in the number of cards burnt, as there is limited number of promo cards.

Gold foil

From the gold foil promo edition the Molten Ogre is on the top, followed by the Enchanted Defender and the Goblin Chef.

REWARD Cards Burnt

The rewards cards are usually burnt the most. Let’s see their charts.

Regular foil

The Rusty Android is the champion here and it has been for a while. Almost 160k cards burnt. On the second place is the Undead Minotaur, followed by the Vampire.

The numbers for Reward cards burnt are notable higher than the other editions.

Compared to the Alpha edition where the top ones had around 2k burns, the Beta and the Promo with more than 10k burns, the Reward cards are with a massive almost 10X lead.

Gold foil

For the gold foil Reward cards, the Undead Minotaur has taken the lead, just above the Rusty Android. The Silvershield Archers are thirdl.

UNTAMED Cards Burnt

Let’s take a look at the latest edition. The Untamed cards.

Regular foil

The last edition of the Splinterlands cards that is still in print.
The Kobold Bruiser is on the top here with more than a 9k cards burnt, followed buy the Tortisian Fighter and the Snipin Narwhal.

Gold foil

For the Gold foil Untamed edition the Kobold Bruiser is on the top as well with almost 1000 cards burnt, followed by the Magma Troll and Biceratops.

Comparison with the previous report

I have put the top burnt cards from each edition so we can make some comparison. Its not an ideal one but can give us some clue how things stand. The other way is to compare card by card.

Well at first we can notice that burning cards continues no matter what. Land should give cards more useability as it will require cards as workers there, but we can see that this doesn’t stop the burns.

At closer look it is noticeable that cards that are out of print have slower burning rate now. Even the Rusty Android increased by not as much. This is understandable as we can already see that it is out of print and those who wanted to burn the did it already. It interesting that the Beta edition has still some high burning rate. At the end the Untamed burnt cards have increased by a lot compered to the previous report, that is understandable, these are still in print. But overall they haven’t surpassed the numbers of Beta cards burns.

In the next post we will take a look at the amount of DEC created from burning cards as an addition DEC inflation.
