I used to think that contentment was the most important attribute to possess when having to contend with personal finances. While it is important not to get greedy, I have also come to an understanding of significant differences between being greedy and wanting better for ourselves.

Truth is, the majority of us could do with a little boost in our finances. Even for those who are comfortable at present, the greater problem posed is how to continue on that path without sliding back into the jaws of poverty. Let's face it, being poor is not exactly dignifying.

It is with this mindset that I have come to realize that the first advice I would probably be giving myself (and others going forward) isn't choosing to remain content (which is still solid advice), rather it is choosing to remain patient in the face of discontent.

A Waiting Game

Except we opt for something illegal, the chances of wealth being created overnight is pretty slim. It is also difficult to put in effort consistently into anything when the results appear not forthcoming. However, for those who are patient enough to work consistently towards their goals, they quickly realize one thing: Wealth is a process.

I would almost call financial security a myth seeing as no one ever really 'retires' early. While we may change careers into something that better suits us, we don't necessarily stop thinking about our financial positions. We still channel considerable efforts into maintaining relative levels of comfort till we die. The lesson here for me is that wealth creation is a process, and not necessarily (for most) a destination.

The Many Lessons of Hive

If I do achieve some level of wealth or financial security in the future, I have no doubt Hive will play a big role in it. I am not just talking about the accumulation of rewards, but growing in the Hive community is one of the biggest practical lessons on patience we can learn. I remember when @cryptoandcoffee and I were struggling to become minnows. Not many have the patience to build from scratch, but Hive will and has shown the benefits associated with doing so.

Why the Rush Anyways?

Another thing to consider is that we're still going to be waiting either ways. It could either be from building something worthwhile, or from spending the time looking for overnight result schemes. Either way, time passes quickly and we could either be proud of ourselves or kick ourselves when we look back.

Conclusion

Of course there are a lot more things associated with attaining financial security, but finally accepting that I probably am not going to come across life transforming money in my twenties further helps me better plan a bit more into the future. We all reason differently though, so it will be interesting to hear what you guys think is great foundational advice.
