Since the last hardfork (HF25), also called Equilibrium, I've been keeping an eye on curation to see how it works. For those of you who are new to the platform, the last HF has modified the curation distribution, among other things.

We're on linear curation, which simplified means the curation reward is split equally between the curator and author, in the first 24 hours. After the first 24 hours things change, but more about that later as that's not my main point here.

The above description is very simplified, without using the proper technical terms, but here's a quote from @ blocktrades.

The most important aspect of this change is that the 5 minute reverse auction is going away, so there is no punishment for voting early. This will finally put manual voters on an equal footing with automated voters when it comes to competing for curation rewards. This change, more than any other, was the driving reason for the naming of this hardfork.

In addition, anyone voting in the first 24 hours will be rewarded based solely on their Hive Power and vote weight, and the reward curve applied from 24 hours to the end of the voting window will be much softer than currently, eliminating any need to feel rushed when voting in order to maximize curation rewards. source

The 50/50 curation reward split is a rough estimation as in reality you get 99%, 100% or 101% if you vote in the first 24 hours, which is ok as we're not at the pharmacy to work with high precision.

0 Curation Rewards

Occasionally there are exceptions where the difference between the promised 100% vote efficiency and the real one is huge.

100% vote efficiency in this case means you get 100% of your curation cut, 100% of the 50% curation that goes to curators.

Here's an example in which I gave a 10% vote after 10 hours and my vote efficiency is 0 (ZERO), therefore my curation reward is also 0 (ZERO)!

New Initiative for New Users

Here's another one. In this case the vote went out after 3 minutes, in which case should not be a penalty as HF25 has eliminated that.

Having a closer look, the user set 30% of the rewards to go to two beneficiaries, 15% each. This may change things, but as far as I know, setting beneficiaries can only influence the author rewards.

None of the posts have been downvoted, I voted within the 24h window and yet, the vote efficiency is not what is should be.

Fortunately there is only this cases this week and just to be clear, I'm not complaining about missing out on curation rewards. I just what to understand what's going on here, why in these cases the curation reward is either missing or it's way less than it should be.

Curating After The First 24 Hours

Curating the next day can have benefits and penalties, depending on which side you are. As a curator, your curation rewards are halved (roughly). Those who curated in the first 24 hours on the other hand can get more than 100% if a bigger vote comes in the next day.

However, cases like the above mentioned one are not many, so don't count on making a fortune on it :)

What's The Reason?

I don't like to tag people, so I'm just going to post my question and hope someone from the dev team can solve this mystery for me.
