Reflecting on a year of Hive Power Up Day Delegations and other ruminations

Four years ago on the 17th of this month, I created my first blockchain account. I had planned, and started writing, a proper "anniversary post". Life, and kitchen day, in particular, had other plans. Perhaps that was serendipitous because that mental post was quite different from the one that's now falling out of my fingers, through the keyboard and on to the screen.

Two years ago, I participated in a contest that @zord189 regularly ran, and it occurred to me that the sentiments in that post about my experience of and on the blockchain have, by and large, not changed. Like real life, though, there have been huge changes on the blockchain, including it's hiving off into new territory, the advent of communities - some with their own tokens. One big change for me, was a decision which coincided with my third blockchain birthday, to kinda put my money where my mouth is by sponsoring delegations for redfish participating in the monthly Power Up Day, that @streetstyle started and which (with his prompting) @traciyork has, I am delighted to say, now claimed as her own. Check out her Hive Power Up Day announcement for some new and exciting innovations that start immediately.

Blockchain and delegation anniversary

In celebration of my blockchain anniversary last year, and reaching the 2000HP milestone, I doubled the three delegations I was also offering as part of the PUD initiative. This year, and although I'm delighted that my account has more than tripled in the 12 months and I remain committed, for as long as I can, to powering up the liquid HP. However, my RL circumstances is that I am having to draw my liquid HBD and which means I am having to curb my natural philanthropic tendencies because, as my father always said, charity begins at home.

That means that my delegations continue from the 300 HP that I have set aside to delegate in equal share among three accounts that meet the basic Power Up Day Criteria as well as these additional criteria:

Eligible accounts must also be -

  • be less than 6 months old
  • have **at least two qualifying posts since the previous power up day.
Posts that qualify must have 200 words or more and exclude posts for Power Up Day, and Actifit. As a reminder, the reason I added the second criterion is because - Hive is a social blockchain: it's for socialising, ruminating and just generally hanging out.
  • a reputation of less than 61
  • not more than 500 HP in their accounts before** they power up - both on the first of the month

Then there's more

Every account that participates in Power Up Day, and does so regularly, stands a chance of receiving a delegation from @hivebuzz - in addition to a bee badge. Read about both here

A word or two about July's delegation beneficiaries

I was thrilled when @ginabot notified me about milestones that two of last month's beneficiaries have achieved in the last thirty days: @dibblers.dabs achieved his 1000HP milestone and @cibersk8, a whopping 3000HP goal. Both reached these milestones in very different ways - as they both explain. Pop over and have a read and say hi.

However

*There is no right or wrong way to achieve your Hive goals, so do what's comfortable to you.

Back to what I do, and what if no accounts qualify?

Thanks for asking: as I always say, I don't make decisions on my own, so if, as has happened in the past, there are "slim pickings", I will be working via Traci with the @ocd team and making selections from the @lovesniper noob curation initiative. I will also continue to keep an eye out for those noobs who fall into the Silver Bloggers' league and who have joined that community as was the case for @bartolomee whose account was among those eligible for last month's delegation.

But that's not all

Remember that in addition to the delegations, these accounts are added to my fanbase and receive a daily 100% upvote (if my voting power is still more than 90%; if it's not, I do try to pop over, but RL sometimes gets in the way). This is also why I ask @ginabot to notify me each time they post. If I have an opportunity, I pop over and have a gander and occasionally weigh in on whatever the post may be about. If you haven't had a vote, I then give a manual vote.

See you on Hive Power Up Day, 1 August 2021

PS. This post still didn't turn out as originally planned because I hit a major snag yesterday. To @traciyork, @unklebonehead, @pixiepost and @rosmadirazali who stopped by to commiserate:

Until next time, be well Fiona The Sandbag House McGregor, South Africa
