My first impression of Sorare; a blockchain based football manager game with NFT's.

Football is one of my favourite sports. I've played it for years and like watching it too.
And I also like playing games. I've played many football managers in the past.
And then I stumbled upon Sorare.

What is Sorare?

Sorare is advertised as a fantasy football game supported by gaming giant Ubisoft and already trusted by hundreds of football clubs. Because of the support they are allowed to use officially licensed cards and more clubs joining every month. So did Real Madrid joined Sorare in mid December. The players are represented in the form of NFTs. The game is based on the ethereum blockchain.

How does it work?

When you register an account you will receive 400M to 'buy' player cards for your squad. These players can earn points for you in the real life games they are playing. You have to buy 10 players and need to create a balanced squad. But you can also let Sorare generate a squad for you. FriendlyMoose FC is consists of the following players:

Leagues

After you have completed your squad you can subscribe for a league. Leagues will run four to five days. In the beginning you can only join the Starter Rooky League, but there are all sorts of leagues possible. Each league has it's own rules.
For each round you have to select 5 players of your squad that can collect points for you.
Be sure that the players you select have a match in the timeframe of the league and that they aren't injured. There are still a few hours until the next round.
Here's my squad for my first appearance:

Your squad can score points for goals, assists, clearance of the line, clean sheet (only goalkeepers) etc.
But they can also lose point for red cards, penalty's conceded or other errors that lead to a goal. For more information you should check the FAQ. Every round you can earn Ethers and cards with the leagues. The prize pool differs per league and week.

Market

The game also has a market. On this market you can buy and sell player cards. As mentioned before; these cards are NFT's, so they represent a certain value. There are different types of cards. The top players are the rare cards and of course the most expensive ones.
There are also collectibles in the game like Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham

My (early) conclusion

I have to say I haven't played a single round yet, but I am quite excited about this game.
The fun part is that, in contrast to other blockchain games, there is no investment needed to play the game. You get your first 10 cards for free.
It really looks like a fun game. There are some tactics, but there is a large portion of luck involved.
Let's see what the first round brings and maybe I will win some cards to make my team stronger! I'll post an update when the round has finished...

For those who are interested I have a referral link from which we both benefit.
