The Achilles heel of cryptocurrencies - El talón de Aquiles de las criptomonedas

The vast majority of the people who are on this platform want and adopt cryptographic currencies and the blockchain as something good and innovative that allows us to manage our consumption, savings, and investments outside of the established traditional systems, causing a true financial revolution.

We have found great benefits for it and every day there are more and better ways of using the technology on which they are based, however, detractors have also appeared, those who only resist changes do not worry if they worry those who see some such verifiable inconveniences as unavoidable.

Recently Bill Gates has externalized something that he himself and others have been talking about for a long time, the pollution caused by the mining of BTC and other cryptocurrencies due to the great electricity consumption that this irreplaceable function implies.

There he mentioned that there are already private studies on this subject and the University of Cambridge has developed an index that seems to give Gates a total reason, there it is mentioned that the annual consumption of energy per mining would be enough to supply my entire country or if you prefer Sweden which for many is better known and/or representative.

The same study shows that the countries that are most likely to mine are precisely those with the highest world consumption, China in the first place followed by the United States of America and Russia.

Proponents of BTC and mining say pollution will be less as electric power generation systems migrate to clean, renewable sources. This is true, however, the bad news is that humanity is still a long way from being able to replace traditional systems and therefore enemies of the environment. Right now, almost a quarter of the 21st century has passed, more than 60% of the energy generated by the planet corresponds to fossil, polluting, and non-renewable sources.

Many do not seem to understand the downside or have a very optimistic view of the future. Elon Musk, for example, a defender of renewable energies and a much greener path for the planet, is nevertheless a great cryptocurrency investor, it seems a contradiction.

One of the great challenges of this new technology is to improve this very negative aspect. Financing research projects for the generation of renewable energies? It is a committed, elegant and efficient outing. Don't you think?

La gran mayoría de las personas que estamos en esta plataforma queremos y adoptamos las monedas criptográficas y la blockchain como algo bueno e innovador que nos permite administrar nuestros consumos, ahorros e inversiones por fuera de los sistemas tradicionales establecidos provocando una verdadera revolución financiera.

Le hemos encontrado grandes beneficios y todos los días aparecen más y mejores formas de utilizar la tecnología en la que se basan, sin embargo, también han aparecido detractores, no preocupan los que solo resisten los cambios, si inquietan aquellos que ven algunos inconvenientes tan comprobables como insoslayables.

Recientemente Bill Gates ha exteriorizado algo de lo que El mismo y otros vienen hablando desde hace mucho tiempo, la contaminación que provoca el minado de BTC y otras criptomonedas debido al gran consumo eléctrico que implica esa función por ahora irremplazable.

En ella mencionaba que ya existen estudios privados sobre este tema y la Universidad de Cambridge ha elaborado un índice que parece darle total razón a Gates, allí se menciona que el consumo anual de energía por minado alcanzaría para abastecer a todo mi país o si prefieren a Suecia que para muchos es más conocido y/o representativo.

En el mismo estudio queda plasmado que los países que más probabilidades de minar poseen son justamente los de mayor consumo mundial, China en primer lugar seguido de Estados Unidos de América y Rusia.

Los defensores del BTC y la minería dicen que la contaminación será menor a medida que los sistemas de generación de energía eléctrica vayan migrando hacia fuentes limpias y renovables. Esto es cierto, sin embargo, la mala noticia es que la humanidad aún está muy lejos de poder reemplazar los sistemas tradicionales y por lo tanto enemigos del medio ambiente. Ahora mismo, transcurrido casi un cuarto del siglo XXI, más del 60% de la energía que genera el planeta corresponde a fuentes fósiles, contaminantes y no renovables.

Muchos parecen no comprender el inconveniente o tienen una visión muy optimista del futuro. Elon Musk por ejemplo, defensor de las energías renovables y de un camino mucho más ecológico para el planeta es sin embargo un gran inversor de criptomonedas, parece un contrasentido.

Uno de los grandes desafíos de esta nueva tecnología es mejorar este aspecto tan negativo. ¿Financiando proyectos de investigación para la generación de energías renovables? Es una salida comprometida, elegante y eficiente. ¿no les parece?
