A while back I wrote about Slingshot and how you can use it to get the most out of your trades. Since then the platform kept evolving and is now aiming to become an NFT hub, or so it seems.

Background

This NFT drop has been announced sometime in November (if I am not mistaken) and it has generated a lot of buzz in the communities that are closely following tokenless protocols. The secrecy is causing confusion and speculation in the markets.

Before this NFT event Slingshot airdropped a fractionalized Pudgy Penguin to power users. They essentially bought the penguin NFT and issued a token that represents a fraction of that NFT. Owning 100 of these tokens gives you the right to use the Pudgy Penguin PFP on Slingshot.

The Asian community interpreted this as a requirement for this next NFT airdrop and started buying large quantities of the PP token causing the price to spike way beyond it's actual value.

The truth is that no one knows if there are any requirements and if this will be a sale or an airdrop but I would be prepared nevertheless.

Minting Starts At 4:00 PM PT

Slingshot has created a dedicated page that has a countdown for this drop. There has been a lot of secrecy around the 2099 project but my personal guess (because I missed the AMA and there is absolutely no info about it on Twitter) is that it will be a minting event so get some Matic ready if you want to participate.

The only question is why should you participate and here are a few answers:

• Slingshot still has no token and these NFTs may have something to do with it in the future

• It is by far the best trading platform on Matic as it aggregates all major exchanges and gives you the best price and pays positive slippage to the users

• There is a high chance they will be releasing an NFT training platform and people are desperately looking for Opensea alternatives right now

• People willing to buy Pengu tokens at a premium should indicate that there is a lot of interest in this drop

The NFT section is added to the website but it is still not usable.

An Opportunity for NFT Flippers and Airdrop Hunters

As already mentioned, Slingshot has no token but it will most likely have one in the future. Participating in this one just may increase your chance of getting the airdrop once it happens.

Another opportunity comes from flipping the NFTs once the minting phase is over. I am sure that many that miss the drop will want to buy some on the market so grabbing a few will probably be a good idea.
