I was feeling a fair bit of guilt, and failure at the time, and trying to keep myself from slipping into depression. Declaring bankruptcy would probably have been a faster way out of the mess but in my head it would have been the ultimate mark of failure.

For my own peace of mind, I didn't want to admit defeat like that, so battled on.
