Blockchain Investment Club.

Spinvest is an Investment Club, based on the HIVE blockchain, and tokenised through the Hive-Engine platform. It was formed originally on STEEM, and moved with most of the community to HIVE with the fork. Spinvest's motto is "Get Rich Slowly" - it's investment style is to build a growing range of income producing assets, and steadily diversify over time. The token on Hive Engine is SPI, and unlike many it is an asset backed token with a dividend payed weekly.

History

At launch, the goal of Spinvest's founder - @silverstackeruk - was to sell 1 million tokens at 1 STEEM each. The plan was to power up all STEEM into STEEM Power, and then Lease it out for income. The Income generated would be invested in other assets, with BTC, precious metals and stocks being initial targets. Early sales were encouraging, and a number of people bought in to the concept and started building their SPI holdings.

As time progressed, sales slowed. The ongoing crypto bear market, and the persistent weakness of STEEM both in value and progress took its toll. Many early investors hit the level of holdings they were targeting, and new people finding and investing became a rarity. The club looked for ways to diversify income and maintain growth. Accounts were set up to curate and earn tribe tokens on STEEM Engine - most notably LEO and NEOXIAN.

Around the time of the STEEM/HIVE fork, the leadership group were discussing capping the supply and shifting to a dividend model. The fork happened, and it was agreed to move the base over to HIVE, along with most of the community. STEEM power-downs began, and the fork boosted the net asset base considerably. A vote of all club members took place, and a hard cap of 100,000 tokens was agreed. No new tokens beyond this will be issued. This decision has led to a scarcity of tokens in the market, and with zero token inflation, the net asset backing will steadily grow over time. Also, the vote approved a model paying 50% of HIVE based income as a weekly dividend.

A small note here about the name "SPInvest". Initially, it stood for "Steem Powered Investments". When the fork happened, a decision was made not to rebrand. Instead the meaning of the name was changed to "Socially Powered Investments" to better represent the club and also avoid the irritation of rebranding.

Club Structure.

The SPI token can be held by anyone, without needing to have any more involvement than that. However, joining up as a member of the Investment club grants voting rights and a higher dividend level. Those that organise, manage accounts or moderate would be considered the "Leadership group" and they receive a slightly higher dividend again.

More information about the membership structure, how to join and so on can be found at these links:

These steps are completely optional, but give a more complete experience of being a club member as opposed to just a passive token holder.

Who is involved?

  • @silverstackeruk - founded the club, issued the tokens, ran the token sale, manages the @spinvest account, posts daily, keyholder, generally - "the boss". aka Mr S.P. Invest, SSUK, Spinny

  • @underground - Set up @spinvest-neo, active in discord, enthusiastic and energetic - one of the largest token holders. aka Undy

  • @jk6276 - the author of this article - founder of @spinvest-leo branch. Spends a fair bit of time trying to poke holes and look for flaws in SSUK's ideas. Occasional ideas man. aka JK

  • @taskmaster4450 - Another large stakeholder. Involved in direction planning and guidance, active in discord and through post engagement. One of the first visionaries to become heavily involved in SPInvest. aka Tasky

  • @shanibeer - Stakeholder, moderator, the voice of reason. Many of Spinvests plans have to pass through a "Shanibeer" inquisition before progressing. Her thoughtful enquirees and critical assesment strengthens the planning stages of any new project or alteration to the planning. aka Shani

  • @metzli - Another great addition to the leadership group, thoughtful and cautious, her considered and ethical approach to the clubs investments help keep us in line at times. aka (not sure) Metzy maybe???

  • @shitsignals - Runs the @spi-steemcity account. This branch has built a City on what is now called Dcity, generating a nice return on the initial investment made. aka (again, not sure) Shitty doesn't sound very nice does it???

  • Other club members. There are too many to name, but most actively participate in one way or another - venturing ideas in discord, supporting posts, holding SPI tokens, and most importantly voting in polls to have a say in the direction of the club.

Honorable mentions to:

  • @khaleelkazi, founder of Leofinance, who has been very supportive from day 1

  • @neoxian who is also a supporter, and welcomed the @spinvest-neo account into his Neoxian tribe with open arms

  • @gerber - superstar HIVE developer, founder of @dcity, assisted us moving SPI to HIVE, our favorite witness

  • @welshstacker - not active in day to day operations, but vital nonetheless. Backup Keyholder in-case anything happens to SSUK.

The future:

Spinvest will continue to build its asset base over time, and hopefully steadily increase its dividends accordingly. Now that token sales have ceased, the leadership team is all focused on ways to grow and expand the club to keep driving the project forward.

The STEEM Power-down has given SPInvest a balance of Tether that is earmarked for BTC at the right price. Other growth avenues are in early stages of planning, with limitless opportunities out there.

The basic plan for the long term is "get rich slow".
