Hive can be described in various ways depending on its impact on one's life; for some, it is a gem, a lifesaver, a retirement plan, etc. As I sit behind my desk typing these words Hive holds several meanings to me and much more than I can put into words, for the past 6-7 months it has taken the form of a full-time job, so I can boldly describe it as a job.

Deep within these descriptions is trust at the core of everything we do on Hive. The blockchain's transparent characteristic makes building a trusting relationship with community members easier. Sometimes, these members form bonds to become close friends beyond on-chain interactions.

We can't deny that there are bad actors within the community whose presence is to scam others of their holdings, thankfully the ones with good intent outweigh the bad ones or at least the transparency nature of Hive forces us to behave in a trustworthy manner otherwise there is no place for us in the community.

No one is capable of shutting down the account of untrustworthy behavior but alienating reactions from the community can be far damaging and when that happens, reputation suffers.

Trust At Play

Today 27th of April marks two months since I left South Africa, it has been a surprise to meet oadissin in Benin, to say he has been supportive and helpful is an understatement.

One of the many ways he has been helping was the exchange of HBD for CFA. Since I am fully dependent on Hive earnings now, I sell HBD to **oadissin*, all I do is transfer HBD to him, and gives me CFA cash. It has been very easy to offramp crypto that way, saving me the time and the procedures to convert cryptocurrency to fiat currency.

Last month I needed more fiat but had less liquid HBD, he gave me the extra fiat I needed and I paid the balance HBD to him days later after I have.

It is that time of the month to pay bills and we are going to be doing the same transaction, a financial need came up which will cause me to need more fiat after I have made arrangements with *oadissin he was willing to give me more fiat than the amount of liquid HBD I have as he doesn't mind I pay back 3 days after I have withdrawn the HBD.

This is trust at play through Hive which I appreciate a lot. The same can be said for *josediccus collaborating over the @jj-finance account where we run weekly finance-crypto-related talks. Over time trust has been established between the both of us as we both hold private keys to that account, I go to sleep peacefully at night knowing Jose is not going to develop itchy fingers over the funds in that wallet and I believe the same applies to me.

Isn't it great that Hive makes us build a trusting relationship?
