Will A Different Entry Point Incentives To P2E Games Drive Global Adoption?

The splinterlands' season ended yesterday and it's typical of everyone to have this sort of excitement to check their loot. Great loot translates to more money, more money becomes a bigger motivation to increase one's skin in the game (pun indeed).

"Skin in the game" as it were, translates to effort, money and time and since we want to be positively futuristic about the outcome of the present, we still need a little incentive to keep up with the level of skin we put in. I've stressed a lot that Splinterlands is "P2E" That is, play to earn.

The motivation behind the whole gaming aspect is actually to earn. If the incentive is low, it reduces the motivation. Now people are discovering new strategies to make sure they move from league to league, this strategy involves the in-game decisions and external money decisions. This is why you'll see players with astonishing creative ways how to make even more money.

The Incentive That Drives Passion

Many people aren't playing because they're passionate, this is because I believe people now play for the incentive and if they're not then they'll be playing FIFA or PUGB, why?. Blockchain games require effort, skills, and a more dedicated understanding.

This is different from a regular arcade or shooting game where almost anyone can play. But the reason why players who are into P2E go the extra mile is because of the involvement of money. However, this isn't to say people can't have fun playing games while making money. Splinterlands embodies this concept: Money and fun/entertainment.

I can testify that I was a terrible gamer, but sometimes I take a look at the way, I tend to destroy some opponents in battle (I usually max in silver III due to collection power and take I'm used to taking apart players in silver One for fun) the truth is that I wouldn't have been able to do so.

Splinterlands In Focus

The motivation that there are prospective ways to earn has made me a better player, which I wouldn't have been able to do with traditional games like PUGB. So even if I am extrinsically motivated to play the game, over time I've come to enjoy all that carnage of battle and the excitement of soiling another player's gameplan.

Now, the rewards in dollar valuation can be shitty sometimes but I remembered talking of volume rather than value here You see, accumulating is something I like doing and it's pretty much low when it comes to incentives to play the game, but it's a period where a person can set up themselves nicely, should the market or the economy of the ecosystem decides to blow up.

Here's a catch; along the line, I've discovered the incentive is tiny, depending on the skin, but then, I've loved playing the game so much that I don't mind the present rewards anymore.

How Was This Possible?

The game itself boasts of a great entry point. This wasn't the same with games like anxie infinity that promised so much money at the beginning. The point is, there has to be an actual selling point, even if prospectively, this might dwindle with time.

On the other hand, the incentives or money that comes with P2E games have made games that are not P2E less desirable at least for those who know. If P2E games go mainstream and attain global adoption, then traditional games might have to adopt the incentivization model to stay in business. It's mainly the developers and the game app that takes all that money but to adjust to sharing some of this money with players, then the model has to change.

This is hypothetical as P2E games might not attain adoption (although the chances are high). However, we all know it's not all "free to play", If people can earn without having to invest any money, then it might attain adoption faster, but gas out quickly due to lack of sustainability.

Splinterlands' Season's Reward Outcome

This isn't an exciting reward, nevertheless, I'm happy to keep accumulating them. The touted rare VENARI SEEDSMITH seems to be the most valuable and of course, I like to think of the other rewards as indulgences. I have been expecting to get another pack after I got one about three seasons ago but I haven't gotten one.

For over $2 for a pack, I think I'll be excited, the prospect of the content of the pack being over $2 is there. Although you might open a pack and every card there might not amount to the initial $2 for the pack.

So, sometimes, a pack is better unopened, rather than opened and vice versa, the element of luck is always in play. So, here we have it guys. A fulfilled season nonetheless. Remember, volumes over value.
