New Instagram Users? 10 Tips + Bonus about how to get your first followers and increase them!
Here's some ways to increase your follower base on Instagram!
[Information and tips that derive from my journey on Instagram; There is not a specific recipe, and all actions depend on a variety of factors.]
A. Decrease your expectations If you are not Jennifer Aniston who managed to 'break the Instagram' acquiring millions of followers in a few hours, then don't get your hopes up.
If you just started your Instagram account you probably want it to grow very quickly. Having a big number of followers makes us feel important and strengthens our online presence!
But if you are expecting too much, too soon - you will probably be disappointed. I have witnessed a big number of accounts that started strongly, only to stop after a short (or long) while, because they did not get results according to their goals.
So, first of all, be prepared to grow slowly and organically. So that you can get to keep all these followers
Back in the days, I was freelancing at a website and I saw someone looking to gain 1000 followers on Instagram. I contacted her and told her that it would take minimum of 1-2 months, with a specific strategy & content etc. She did not take my offer and a few hours later I saw that she took the offer of someone else who had great reviews and also promised to grow their account in the best way. The lady got her 1000 followers in a few days. But after a while they started to decrease. I monitored the account to see that engagement was very low, no one from the followers liked her photos and instead of the number to increase - it decreased as the days would go by. I remembered that and checked out the account again. I saw that she has not posted anything since January - and her followers are even less. - Best scenario, she bought herself some bots and lost time, money, efforts
B. Remember that like you, there are many many Instagrammers, only better!
I don't wish to diminish your value, not at all. You may be really great, amazing and unique. But you will be among 500 million active users per day, so it might take some time until you get discovered.

Now that we know that we are getting in the deep blue sea, let's see some more specific tips!
1. Check out your own profile
Make sure that you have a nice & representative profile, with a picture, a bio and a link! It will also help a lot if you have at least 9 posts in your profile, so that people who click can get an instant idea about your theme and style.
2. Don't sit waiting for people to visit your profile
Hashtags and super content will surely help increase your exposure. But if you don't get out there and research existing/current/recent/top content - and of course interact with other people, don't expect too much. I have seen more results from liking & commenting on other people's photos then with posting content.
3. Be kind
Don't expect people to just come and follow you. Speak nicely to them, be gentle and don't ask for favors if you will not reciprocate.
It sounds nicer to say "Hey, I really like your photos and I just followed you. It would be nice if you followed back"
Today a brand new account came at my recent post with the comment "follow my account to grow" ... The account was brand new, without content, without profile photo/description etc. He also sent me a message, asking me to follow and promote him. I told him my opinion about what to do and where to start from. I hope he does well, because he did start the wrong way :)
4. Follow; but wisely
Whenever you discover an account who produces nice content, follow them. There is a chance they will follow back!
5. Unfollow; but wisely
If someone does not follow you back, and you could live without watching their content, do unfollow them. They will not mind :)
6. Numbers ...
It is good to keep a close number of following/followers. If someone checks your profile and sees that you follow 5000 people, but are followed by 100 - that does not look so nice.
7. Birds of a feather...
Usually accounts that post similar content and have similar number of followers will also enjoy your photos, and probably also want to be followed. So, you commenting/liking/following will give them motivation to follow back and interact with you.
8. Stories
Share stories of other users posts. They will probably do the same for you!
9. Create content often
Imagine people checking out your last post - 1 month old! People who follow you, wish you to be an active user! So make sure that you have a clear idea of what to post and when to post it.
10. Be careful of what you wish for..
The more your followers grow, the more you will need to check out their posts, the more time it will take to reply to messages, to keep up with your account. It takes dedication and consistency. You need to be prepared to devote more time if you need to.
Your strategy will pretty much depend also on the scope of the Instagram.

- Don't overdo it. Instagram may block you if you perform too many actions, as it will consider you a spammer/bot/automated service. Use it wisely, prudently.
- Don't buy followers.
- Be careful with games / tricks that promise to make you an instagram celebrity
- Don't click on links from ppl you dont know
- Don't trust everyone

I have my katycrete account just for fun. I need to post my daily photos, ideas, news, experiences. I dont do tricks to grow it, because I already have a 12K account that takes up more than 1 hour of my time on a daily basis.
Whatever you do, make sure you have fun with it, learn during the process and maybe acquire yourself a new skill :) Instagram expertise :)
