No need to invest anything, really. You have to power up a couple of WAX if you mine excessively but I have 20 WAX staked myself (~0.6$) and never ran out of steam. If you want to, you can just mine until you run out of resource credits for the first time, trade what you mined for TLM here and power that up - this cycle should keep you going indefinitely.
