The Anniversary bells are ringing!

Hive Land is filled with joy and everyone is putting up a post or two about this special day. Well, not everyone because I think there are many who do not know about today’s celebration. I believe this should be improved on (by all of us), and I hope next year’s celebration will be better.

But, what’s so special about this day?

Reading through wonderful posts by awesome Hive authors on the occasion of this anniversary, I cannot but appreciate Hive for being real!

Yes, Hive is real!

Hive has transcended the realm of “just a cryptocurrency” or “just a crypto coin” and has become something more physical which has improved the well-being of people. Without mincing words, Hive has improved the water system of some villages in Ghana, Hive has assisted many of us (including myself) in clearing off huge financial debts, Hive has become a home for many, Hive has assisted people in fighting off depression (I am not an exception), Hive has become a social ground for many to interact and make real life friends, Hive has made many people tap into their potential and give their best, and Hive has helped many people to fight off real life challenges.

Yes, Hive has done a Lot!

And by Hive, I mean the Community Hive and the Currency $Hive; little wonder Hive currency is Community driven.

BIRTHDAY: A Birth (New Life) or a Fork (New Goal)?

I have been asked countless times by some of the people who I onboarded on Hive directly and indirectly about the Birth of Hive. I get questions like: “When was Hive born?” “When was Hive founded?” “Who founded Hive?”

Truly, these aren’t trivial or unimportant questions, in fact they are really important.

I remember my class in Existentialism, when we had to look at the concepts of existence and essence via the assertions: “Existence precedes essence” and “Essence precedes existence.” In as much as I wouldn’t want to pick a side or delve into much philosophical debate here, the point I’d love us to bear in mind is that “existence” and “essence” are crucial.

By “existence” I mean, a thing coming “into being,” and by “essence” I mean the “purpose of its existence”... O well, I am beginning to sound once more like the philosopher which I should be...

But naaa... let’s keep it simple!

If by “Birth”, we mean that Hive came out of nothing to become something; from “non-existence” to “existence” then I think we may be wrong by that.

But, if by “Birth”, we mean Hive was given a “New Life”, oh yes yes yes... I’d readily agree to that, and I am sure the oldies on the chain will also agree to this, albeit if not in its entirety, then I wouldn’t be surprised.

However, another perfect word is “Fork
(please don’t replace the “or” with a “uc”).

FORKDAY: The Past, Present and Future

Those who aren’t crypto enthusiast may wonder what I mean by “fork”; whether I refer to the kitchen utensil or whether I “miswrote” the alphabets.

As a way of giving a two sentence “unexhaustive summary:” The community that make up Hive was once under an ecosystem that was hinged on decentralized. However, when the decentralization of the ecosystem was threatened and hijacked, the community came together and “moved”, “created”, “formed” or “built” Hive “together.”

This is the reason why “decentralization” and “community” are always at the center of our discussions.

Indeed, my former History lecturer Prof. Ajayi would always remind us that it is really important to study the Past because a good study of the “past” will help us understand the “present” better, and this in turn will help us predict or plan for the “future.”

COMMUNITYDAY: A Stagnant or a Growing Community?

So, yes, another perfect description is Communityday.

Remember what I said earlier: Hive is built on a community; and that Community is made up of You and I. In as much as many of us where not present when this event occurred, we share in this because we have joined the community.

If Hive were to be a stagnant community, the “old community” would not have allowed Newbies like myself to find a home on Hive, in fact, we would have been considered as visitors with only a temporal account. But, the Hive community is a dynamic community; a community that is growing, that is open to growth and that Is bound to grow.

Hive allows us to fit ourselves into the community; and allows us to BUILD.

Yes, Hive is a community for builders; a community that tries to work on its errors and improve for better.

Look at what we have achieved as a community within 3 years, and we know that this is just the beginning.

I am proud to be part of the noble community of Hive: I am proud to be part of the Communities inside the Community of Hive.

Happy Birthday, Forkday and Communityday to all of us.

I hope you have participated in the Hive Birthday Power UP Challenge?

Do so now, and do all you can to grow the Community!
