I was starting to feel like we may never get a taste of GameStop's NFT marketplace but it looks like things are moving along. They announced that they are working on an NFT platform a couple months ago (I think? I wrote about it but it seems so long ago). I feel like this was before we even found out that Coinbase's NFT platform is in the works.

GameStop NFT

There's been an update to the GameStop NFT website. It's not dead. Don't worry. Your GameStop NFTs are coming! This platform may very well be a pretty big thing once it's live, especially if the Wall Street Bets subreddit is paying attention. Did you see what they did with GameStop GME stock? Wait til there's GameStop original NFTs and NFTs exclusive to their platform. Wait till they build a GameStop store front in The Sandbox metaverse and you have to go wait in the virtual line for NFT drops just like you did when they dropped a game at midnight. Oh, the nostalgia. Gamers are gunna either hate or love this shit. There's not real in between. The reality is - gaming doesn't need NFTs just like NFTs don't need gaming. They do marry together nicely though.

The GameStop NFT website has a pretty cool little animation with the Ethereum logo on a game cartridge. It also has a for that you can fill out to be an approved NFT creator for their platform. There's also an Ethereum contract address there so you can go buy their new GME crypto token! I didn't even realize they had their own token. Off to Etherscan!

I love looking at token contracts and doing a little blockchain analysis the old fashioned way. The token contract holds like 10,000 USDC, some Loopring LRC, and of course some of their own GME tokens. This contract has exactly 69,420.69 GME. I can't lie, when I discovered this I laughed pretty hard. Like really laughed, not just LOL but like out loud and hard.

Digging a little deeper.... Man! The amount of times 69 and 420 appear in this token contract's transaction history is fucking amazing.

Also worth noting here - this seems to be the official contract address for GameStop's GME token. This contract has existed for quite some time. Transactions dating back nearly a year ago. Not to be confused with GameStop Finance's token also sharing the same ticker symbol. Are they related? I dunno. I'm just playing around lol. Looking at the contract code, you can see that it's definitely their token.

You can also see that the contract has not been audited, so you know... Use at your own risk. What is the token used for? Nothing at the moment but I assume it will be a native crypto token for the NFT marketplace. Maybe used for gas fees, minting, etc? Maybe even staking. Also worth noting - the code is very simple. Nothing too complicated here, just some parameters for buying, selling, and minting NFTs.

I dunno why I wanted to see the code but I have a basic understanding of Solidity so it's always interesting to see what they secretly program in. Looking at this, it looks like it will work. That's about all I can say. I'm just a stoner nerd that likes to look at blockchain shit. I didn't see anything that stuck out to me as malicious, but again, I'm just a dude. I'm not expert. What I really wanted to find in the code is the total supply of the GME token and what it's a copy of lol.

The closest think I could find was this, but it has a different contract address, which created another contract adddress, which created the contract we were initially looking at. So who knows. But 69,420,000 would be the kind of total supply I'd expect from the biggest Meme company ever.

I kinda got too far into looking at the code to remember what I was initially going to write about... but this was fun. I hope you had a laugh. I sure did.

Thanks for reading! Much love.
