Hey frens, I hope you're doing well today. My life has been absolutely insane the past week and has only gotten crazier. Between my business, personal things, and now my mother in law needing 24/7 care... It's tough. Anyway - I had to get a post out because it feels like I've wasted a day that I haven't at least gotten something done on Hive.

Lonely Ape Dating Club

I don't remember where I saw this get mentioned, probably on Twitter. So much happened yesterday for me that it's almost a blur. I saw the name "Lonely Ape Dating Club" and immediately thought this was yet another monkey JPEG project like Bored Ape Yacht Club. Boy was I wrong. It may, in fact, be worse than that. This is a dating app like Tinder or whatever other popular one you can think of. The difference with this one is that in order to use the app, you have to own one of those highly-sought-after Bored Ape NFTs. As the website states, one can expect to "meet like-minded degens from your favorite web 3 community". I don't think I've ever heard a more cringe-worthy statement. I'm married so maybe my opinion on this is skewed, but I just can't see the appeal. First off, you're going to limit your potential dating partners to ones that own Bored Ape NFTs. The floor price for a Bore Ape is around 99 ETH, or about $300,000.

The second major problem with this in my opinion is that instead of being able to see the potential person you'd be meeting, you can only see their NFTs. According to this article, you don't even have to put your name on your profile. Instead, you link your Ethereum wallet and you're ready to get to dating.

There is no need to enter or display personal information. Instead, one can link their crypto wallet to access the app. Once logged in, the users can display their net worth and NFT portfolio. You can also filter your matches by their cryptocurrency value and the NFT collection.

I dunno about you, but if I'm trying to get a date, I wanna at least know their name and would like to see a picture. Not just an ugly monkey and a profile that says the person has a million dollar net worth. I just can't wrap my head around a world where this would actually work. Can you imagine the amount of catfishing that's going to happen on a dating platform where you don't even post a picture of yourself? It happens all day every day on existing platforms where you do actually post pictures of yourself. Now we're talking about blind dating people based off their cryptocurrency net worth? What?!

When you find a match, you can either send em a message or "monkey around". Whatever the hell that means. I just can't see this being a good thing. Sure it's nice to meet like-minded people but I think this is the wrong approach to that. Maybe I'm just dumb. I happen to be of the opinion that love has no bounds. Love shouldn't be based on someone's cryptocurrency portfolio value or their NFT collection. It should be based on how they make you feel. Who knows, maybe some people will find love via this laughable dating app. I'm not here hating. I'm just here having a laugh at something I find ridiculous as usual. Let me know what you think. I'm very curious to hear some opinions on this.

Thanks for reading! Much love.
