LeoThreads Update | Emojis Integrated and Our Roadmap to the Future of Web3

ICYMI, we posted a few Threads asking the Leo & Hive Community for feature requests on Threads. We wanted to gauge interest in various features and improvements and then develop our immediate roadmap in that direction.

Two of the most highly requested features were:

1. Emojis
2. GIFs

The ability to add Emojis and GIFs might seem trivial - it is, afterall, a common practice on something like Web2 (Twitter).

As we've said in multiple places: we built LeoThreads from a first principles approach. Taking the very basic features required for Microblogging and then building from the ground up.

Now, it's time to get some of these more surface-level features added. They have a great impact on the User Experience and make it a whole lot more fun to use LeoThreads.

Emojis Are Now Live on Threads!

Now, you can add Emojis directly into your Threads. You were always able to do this via Keyboard shortcuts (for example, ctrl+command + space bar on Mac).

With the latest update, you'll now find the Emoji toggle in the top right corner of the Thread Creation window.

Bonus: this update actually allowed us to integrate Emojis into all aspects of creation on LeoFinance. You'll now find the Emoji button on the Publish a Post window as well as the Comment creation window.

GIFs Are Next

GIFs have proven to be a bit more difficult to navigate. We're attempting to create a very similar experience to what Twitter has - GIF-wise - and what they've done is really cool.

We're aiming to have this finalized by the end of the week. Get ready to post your best GIFs in Threads!

The User Experience

Our focus is on building a fantastic User Experience. This is an amazing thing about Threads. We're all used to such a hardcore, nitty-gritty experience of content creation on Hive.

If you ever wanted to just flow and post whatever the hell you wanted on Hive, you may have been met with backlash. When it comes to top-level posts, there are policeman that will tell you what you can or should earn on your top-level posts.

We're not saying that's wrong. That's just how it is. In fact, many on Hive agree with this as the effort on a 1 picture post vs a 1,000 word post is very different.

That's the nature of having a singular platform.

But Threads is built different. Threads is outside the norm of posting on Hive. It doesn't work with top-level posts.

Instead, we work at a different layer. This allows content of all shapes and sizes to get posted onto the Hive blockchain and earn whatever rewards the community deems worthy of those Threads. Perhaps, no rewards at all.

The fun part about Threads is this lightheartedness. If you want to post a picture of your dog every morning when you wake up, then you can simply go to Threads, upload the picture with or without any text and hit "Create Thread".

Lightheartedness and enjoying content creation and engagement is what Threads is all about. If you aren't on Threads yet, we highly recommend giving it a shot.

This is an Alpha stage project. We're fast approaching what we consider to be "Open Beta" which is when Threads is at a very smooth and comfortable state. Many would agree that we have already achieved it with the past few updates.
