LeoGlossary: Herbert Dies
Date of Birth: October 24, 1958
Dies is the current chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen Group, as well as the chairman of the board of management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand.
He joined BMW in 1996 and worked in a variety of roles. During his time there, he is credited with overseeing the the BMW i3 and BMW i8.
In 2015, he left BMW to join Volkswagen.
Dies had a mixed reign as CEO. While he was named one of the "Best CEOs in the World" by the CEOWORLD magazine, "Dieselgate" took place during his tenure. This cost VW globally as the company was found to manipulate emissions. This equated to a $30 billion loss.
In July 2022, it was agreed that Dies would step down as CEO at the end of August.
