Decentraland

Three years ago I got to know this project called Decentraland through German television and the more they explained what it was about, the more it seemed to me as if they were talking about a science fiction movie. But yes, I understood the intention of those responsible for this interesting work, which is nothing more than to transpose the reality we live in the world behind the screens of our smarts phones, pc or laptops.

I always believe that all human beings have two lives: the real one and the virtual one, the latter is the one we develop in online spaces: social networks, internet browsing and games, the latter increasingly demanding of our time and financial resources. Thinking about this, I decided to follow closely Descentraland and what it is about, because curiosity made me think back then that maybe I am after something important.

Decentraland is developed on the Ethereum blockchain, basically it is a virtual world where every user can create, experiment and monetize content and its applications. Looking at it in detail, it resembles well-known platforms such as Second Life or Minecraft, where we can create our avatars and interact with other users in addition to building an architectural landscape.

On the other hand, Decentraland is not controlled by any central body or company, it is a decentralized virtual reality world, a platform where its users are owners and creators of the content they themselves generate. A virtual land of opportunities. Its token is called MANA, it is the project's currency with which you can buy or rent plots of virtual land, known as LAND, which work through a smart contract based on the ERC-721 standard that is approved and stored in the blockchain.

By acquiring a LAND you can build, design and update whatever you want in that space, whether it is a house, office, building or a place of worship, you have the power to decide what materials are needed, the shape of the facade or if we want a forest on our property.

Another feature of Decentraland is the technical support that the project receives from all corners of the (real) planet, from blockchain and video game programmers to architects, seeking to offer users a space where they can monetize and share their content. For us who know the meaning of content monetization, this platform is perfect for creative people like image artists, who will be able to upload their work to the platform and get some MANA.

Within Decentraland users have a space in virtual reality where creators and buyers agree on their transactions without the intervention of a company or organization making any profit from these interactions or changing the rules of the game at their convenience. The platform's developers advocate an open economy that helps people generate income through their own efforts.

LAND (the plots of land in Decentraland) is a scarce resource; anyone wishing to buy cannot acquire an infinite number of these or place themselves in areas that are already occupied. This seeks to differentiate between high and low traffic zones, allowing for relevance in the virtual world and influencing the payoffs of content creators.

Beyond its function as a video game, Decentraland is a world where we will find projects or diverse experiences such as stores, schools, forums, business offices, cinemas, among others, that is, practically a virtual version of what we see in real life. LAND is also configurable so that developers and programmers can modify and implement it according to their needs.

One of the most striking properties of this platform is that it generates an ideal space for testing blockchain applications that allow users to access mortgages, trusts, decentralized organizations, voting, among others, taking advantage of its fully digital nature. With these schemes Decentraland aims to become a space where we can do all the things we do not dare (or are not allowed) in real life.

As always necessary to warn our reader friends that the information you have just read should not be considered as an advice from me, if you intend to invest in Decentraland take your time to run it. Decentraland take your time corroborating what is written here and judge for yourself taking my research as a tool for your consumption.
