A hardware wallet is the most secure storage for your crypto (as long as you keep your seed phrase safe and offline)

With the Ledger your keys are kept securely on the device, you have a pin you need to access the device when you connect it to your pc/mobile.

It is the size of a usb stick that you connect when you need to access your crypto. When you are not using it you disconnect and your keys are safe from hackers offline. Scroll to the bottom if you just want your 20% discount.

You can access your portfolio through ledger Live, an app than you download to your pc/mobile that allows seeing your portfolio and managing your crypto assets easier, although if you prefer you can also manage some cryptos through external sites e.g. polkadot.js.org for DOT and Yoroi for ADA

I like the Ledger Live app but I do use polkadot.js.org to manage my DOT staking as I like a separate controller account to manage my nominations so I do not need to connect my ledger when I need to make changes, my assets are still secure on my Ledger but managing is easier. I also use Yoroi to manage my ADA as there is no direct ADA staking from within Ledger. Again my crypto is still secured by my Ledger.

In the Ledger Live app you manage which blockchains to add to your ledger, this will probably determine whether you want the Ledger Nano S or the Ledger Nano X. With the Nano S you can only have around 3 different apps downloaded at 1 time, depending on the size of the app. You can delete apps and replace as needed and this will not affect your coins at all, once you reinstall the deleted app you can access your coins again but this can become annoying if you access your coins a lot. If you have a lot of different coins then the Ledger Nano X is probably for you, this can allow you to download up to 100 different apps.

Managing apps through ledger live is straightforward, just connect and unlock your Ledger with your pin and allow the manager.

All transactions are done with the 2 buttons on the top. You can scroll left and right through the numbers to input your pin and pressing both buttons together confirms. Choose which apps you would like to install, confirm and it will download it to your ledger device.

As you can see from the picture below of a Ledger Nano S that currently has Polkadot, Solana and Tron apps installed there is no room to install other apps although I do have other coins on my Nano S, to access these I would need to uninstall one of the above apps and reinstall the app i needed, bear this in mind when deciding whether the Nano S or Nano X is for you.

Sending and receiving coins is straightforward. Use the send or receive buttons on the left to access your addresses. You will need to confirm each action with your device.

But I want my coins to work for me and not just sit in a wallet I hear you say. Well fear not you can stake and nominate coins that are held by Ledger.

You can stake and manage the following coins directly from within the Ledger Live app, keeping your coins secure and earning at the same time.

The following coins can be staked directly from within ledger: DOT, XTZ, TRX, ATOM, ALGO

There are many other coins that can be staked within Ledger using external wallets. ADA, LUNA and KSM to name a few, for a full list you can check here: https://www.ledger.com/supported-crypto-assets/stake

For the coins managed within the Ledger Live app staking, nominating and claiming can all be done from within the app itself. You will need to connect your device to confirm transactions. Taking TRX as an example, you can see from the picture below I can freeze, manage my votes and claim my rewards all from within the Ledger Live app. TRX and Tron tokens are not assets I hold much of but I still hold it within Ledger because why not, best to keep even small amounts secured.

I feel much happier having my keys offline and secured with Ledger.
