If your experience on Hive is anything like mine, it's safe to say you are at least a little bit addicted to the platform. Chances are you are a lot addicted. But addiction doesn't always mean bad. Over time the word "addiction" has been associated with negativity, thanks to certain kinds of addictions, like the alcohol or hard drug kinds. Being addicted to something that benefits you is far from negative. Until it is that is. Even a Hive addiction might get bad, if you start ignoring your real life, your family members, your friends. So lets keep the intensity in check.

But why is Hive so addicting? Well the reason is the same as any other popular social media. Dopamine. When we have the feeling of pleasure from something, our body releases dopamine which gives us that "addictive" happy feeling. In the case of normal social media we get this rewarding feeling from the attention we get from others on the platform, the social interaction with other human beings and therefore the sense of acknowledgement.

With Hive the feeling becomes even more intense because of the added financial reward, which probably also initiates dopamine release. The sense of being acknowledged while getting currency for it will definitely do that. Especially if you know that that financial reward in the form of the HIVE token might be worth even more in the future.

So what do we do about our Hive addiction? Absolutely nothing in my case. All we need to do is manage the intensity of how much we are on here. Find a balance between the other fun and serious factors of life. This way you can excel in many ways, in many situations, creating an awesome future for yourself in the process.
