I'm on Hive a few hours a day. And that number seems to be steadily increasing. Whether it be at home mainly, or at work, or wherever I can access the internet through my phone. I always find an opportunity to check my phone for comments and notification. In many regards compared to mainstream social media, Hive seems to have the same addictive effect. We as human beings are wired to seek out attention and validation, and we pretty much get "high" on the stuff. Well, most of us anyway. That's why most people are the way they are on any type of social media platform.

While I wasn't very active on other platforms, the effect of Hive has also been that I have almost completely abandoned using other platforms. The one platform I would be most active on was Facebook. Nowadays people send me messages to tell me to look at a certain post or that they tagged me in something. They already know I wouldn't see it otherwise. Or maybe I'd see it, but 3 months later.

I still use the mainstream platforms sometimes, but mostly for practical reasons. Commerce being one of them. Some platforms are still pretty good for buying locally made products or provided services. Like fish, plants, second hand electronics, etc. But usually once I have the number of someone trustworthy for the service needed, I won't resort to the digital marketplace anymore.

For those of us on Hive, other platforms are slowly being phased out naturally. While we adapt to decentralized media. We can discuss many arguments why, but it all boils down to one simple thought: decentralized is just better! And unless you're also earning on mainstream platforms, they are just time wasters, filled mostly with drama.

We are already part of the future. Early adopters and all. Addicted or not, it's probably not a bad thing anyway. Depending on the perspective. But it's definitely better than the mainstream alternative.

How are you treating your other social media accounts these days?
