How I utilise my RC (Resource Credits) on Hive

Resource Credit is a requirement to transact on the hive network. It's one of the challenges for newbies on the hive but if you have more Hive power then you need not worry about it. Even if you have 1000 hive power then you kind of hold unlimited RC. Although it's not limited however practically you can do whatever you want and you will not be facing issues with Resource Credits. The next hard fork which is expected to happen next month will bring RC delegation. Even now I see that many accounts are struggling with RC and because of this, they have to slow down their activities.

What is RC (Resource Credits) ?

Resource Credit is allocated based on our hive power so the more HP we have provides us more RC and this can give us more freedom and power to transact on the chain. This varies for each account as per the hive power holding and we don't get RC for incoming hive power delegation.

Every user has a limited amount of Resource Credits to use each week. The more transactions a user does, the less Resource Credits they will have left (until they recharge). Users with more Hive Power will have more Resource Credits.

What can we do with our RC?
  • As I already mentioned that it's a basic requirement for any user to transact on the platform. So if you have more RC then you can perform more actions on the chain including votes, comments, posts, etc.
  • We can also claim account creation tokens by using our RC and I have been doing the same for quite some time. Below is the balance of my claimed token and it's 191 as of now. I don't if there will be some use case later but as of now I claim it using my RC and with 100% RC I get 2 tokens and it deducted about 80% of my RC mana.

  • We can create a free account on hive using the tokens.

  • The first option provided as per the snapshot is to claim an account and since this functionality exists already so I expect that in the future some better use case will be launched. I have more RC than I need and even after claiming these account tokens, I am left with enough RC that is good for me to work here.

RC Delegation

This is a planned feature with the upcoming hard fork and it's like a most awaited functionality. HF 26 is expected to happen next month and then we are going to have it live. Like we have hive power delegation and this way we can earn rewards if we delegate based on the amount so I expect that with RC delegations also there should similar approach. I am not sure about it and it's just my assumption. We need to wait for the official announcement and then only we can have clear information about the RC delegation.

Auto Claim for Account Creation token

We can do the manual claim using peakd wallet and I am not sure if the other front ends are like a hive. blog or ecency are providing this option. You can automate this task if you use hive keychain and I have started doing it in auto for quite some time. I need not do anything to claim and keychain does it for me. This ensures that I have enough RC and excess is used to claim the token.

Below is the hive keychain screenshot that shows how can you find the option and make the token claim automated.

I have almost 200 tokens and now I need not do anything because it's automated and tokens are credited to my wallet. I can use the tokens to create a free account. One account can be created for each coin and if any of you need my help then please let me know. I will not charge anything for this and it's a free service that I will provide. Even there is no criteria or condition to fulfil and just a comment is enough to get a free account. The only thing I expect is that the user should not be abusing the account and use it the proper way. This is all I expect so please comment if you need my help with new account creation.
