Did you follow the Wen Soon show the @leofinance team organized yesterday?

There is a recap that @scaredycatguide posted as a blog. Here’s a link to the video where Khal and Cat discussed with the community members on the upcoming beta release of the new UI, #threads and many more random crypto discussions. This is the first time ever I joined it on #discord with live comments.

To be honest, we should do those comment parties on #threads and only answer questions asked on the Leofinance ecosystem. Just a suggestion but not trying to get eyeballs from the Discord crowd 🙂

One of the issues Khal discussed yesterday was on having a native mobile app for Leofinance.

He shared the complexities around having a native mobile app based on the previous experience. For me, the Leofinance mobile app sucked 😐 I was never able to load it on my android phone and the ios mobile app was on the testflight mode- I think.

The experience was bad- I agree- but that cannot be the reason to not have it going forward. I understand the resource crunch, time issues, complexities around approval and many other new technical glitches that may pop which the team needs to deal with after having a mobile app.

Having said that, there are two benefits that could outweigh the complexities in terms of user extraction and retention.

Log-in experience

We all know digital consumption happens on mobile phones. Having an app would reduce the number of steps for users to access Hive and Leofinance. Once downloaded, users do not need to get out of the app to access services offered by Leofinance- be it blog, wallet, threads, leodex, leoglossary and defi services. If we are aspiring to be the everything app for Hive, we need to have a robust mobile app infrastructure to support that idea.

Having a web app is efficient as we are tackling both operational systems and UI for phones, tablets, laptops and desktops. But, there is one extra step users may need to take everytime they want to access the services.

Notification system

The mobile app comes in handy to send notifications to users to attract their attention and lure them into the ecosystem. We have seen this multiple times with tiktok and instagram when they send notifications based on your habits. Leofinance app could do the same to notify users about upvotes, comments, followers, new posts, new announcements and so on.

Look at this notification I received from @ecency app this morning. It is for @tarazkp. Once I received the notification, I went in and engaged with the specific note. While doing so, I also managed to check my wallet and spent a few minutes. Had there been no notification, I would be going on with the business I was in at that moment. It is actively logging versus luring users into the system and I think app does that work really well

I am not saying we have to have the mobile app right away. As Khal said, we should develop a mobile OS focused robust web app first and work towards having a dedicated mobile app. I believe in Khal as he said the new web app for mobile devices that is on beta is really powerful and efficient.

What is your opinion? Do you think having a mobile app is easy or using a mobile focused web app is as much powerful?

In the end, it is also about users’ preference. I don’t want the first crypto twitter on Hive blockchain to not have a native app. At least start with Android OS :)
