One of my biggest regrets looking back is not getting involved in coding earlier and with more passion. I took a JavaScript class, but never dove much further into it, I also took this class when I was 21 and wish that I could have started when I was 10 or 11 years old.

The reason that I regret it is not for employability in a competitive job market, but rather because my interests now that I pursue as a hobby or could have developed into a passion require much more technological ability than I have.

I really enjoy writing about and talking about cryptocurrency, but I wish I had the ability to really build dApps or different projects in our ecosystem. The NFT project that I'm working on is only possible for me because of walkthrough videos, something that doesn't quite exist yet for most cryptocurrency or web 3.0 projects.

In a theoretical world, there are a few things that I would love to build on Hive. I know that certain groups are working on some of these projects and I hope they are successful in doing so, but I am just sharing what I would be making if I had some more technical skills.

Microblogging Platform

Right off the bat here we have one that has been gaining a ton of traction on Hive through the @leofinance platform and their future #projectblank dApp. Twitter is too restrictive and all of the other microblogging platforms I know have very specific censorship controls that absolutely suck. I would want to be able to write in short-form like I do on Twitter and be connected with a community that can never be silenced. I know that we have DBuzz, but it feels like there is a ton of spam coming from there. A microblogging platform would need to be contained on Hive somehow to avoid seeing a ton of spam on our feeds. Perhaps a restriction on being able to repost to your personal blog outside of the app? A self contained ecosystem where people would go if they wanted to read short form content? Not quite sure, but we need something.

Fantasy Sports Platform

This is a big one and I know there is a group coming onto Hive now that is working on this, though I can't remember what their name was. This is a billion dollar industry that we are not tapping into. If Hive could create a novel platform that took numerous kinds of cryptocurrency (i.e. through swap.ltc, swap.btc, swap.eth, etc.) we could position ourselves to compete with the likes of Fanduel and Draftkings who can at any moment impose account restrictions based on "advantage play", location issues or for any reason they want. Democratizing fantasy sports would be a long process but could eventually lead to huge growth for the ecosystem.

Recommendation Algorithm

I am not sure if this is something that people would like on Hive, but it has proven invaluable for almost every popular web 2.0 business. The idea of data tracking is incredibly invasive and is a slippery slope, but there has to be a sweet spot between 0 and 100. If we used an algorithm of some kind to recommend posts to view based on the tags used in our own and liked posts, it feels like we could create a feed that would be very likely to yield interesting articles for that user. There would of course need to be controls on this because data collection could be something that a lot of users would feel uncomfortable with, perhaps an opt out protocol for those who are not interested?

Trading Competition Platform

I have seen a few of these around and have always found them interesting. Essentially they are like fantasy sports but for trading, where the winners of a trading or mock trading contest would get prizes (i.e crypto, nfts, gift cards, etc.). We could call it "Hive Trade" and members could compete against each other in a turbulent crypto market. Just a thought.

Sports Play2Earn Game

This is something that I tried working on but realized I was about a million dollars short and lacked the team to even begin the process. A game like Splinterlands, but using players from popular sports leagues (i.e. the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB) to run simulated games against one another based on stats that were reasonably tied to real life performance (like they are in NBA2k) to win in game currency. Literally Splinterlands in model but for sports... Could be huge money, if you have huge money to start and pump into it.

These are just some ideas that have been on my mind that I would love to see come to life on the blockchain one day, even if I am not the one creating them. I think that having some of these things built would raise the potential of Hive by a lot.
