TORUM Will Be Huge: Co-founder Jayson Tan Interview
Introduction: Hey everyone, hope the new year has gotten off to a great start in whatever interests you have been pursuing and hope that you’ve begun to find mental clarity during such a turbulent time for our world.
Today I am writing to share the story of another great member of the crypto community named Jayson Tan (@jayson9711). Jayson is the Community manager and co-founder of Torum, a social media platform that is designed for cryptocurrency users and enthusiasts. Tan said that “we found that crypto mass adoption is difficult without “something” to connect and hold the entire crypto space together.
There is also the prevalent issue about projects finding it difficult to market themselves and community being separated in different social apps… We believe Torum is the answer to the three problems above.” Torum seeks to be a pivotal factor in the push for mass adoption, which is one of the main reasons that I sought out Jayson to ask him more about the platform.
Background Information: Jayson Tan is a cryptocurrency enthusiast and self-proclaimed HODLer from Malaysia. He first heard about crypto back in 2015 in a report about how Bitcoin was being used as a currency for the black market and was immediately interested in how digital currency works. He read up on Bitcoin and Ethereum through their whitepapers and soon found himself holding a bag of coins and never looking back.
Tan is quite familiar with the roller-coaster ecosystem of cryptocurrency as his first investment was in NEO, otherwise known as the Ethereum of China. Tan said that he would “never forget that moment where it dropped 15% immediately after I bought it” (turns out we are all prone to the same experiences).
Tan looks to Satoshi Nakamoto as his inspiration. He fully supports the goal of toppling the existing financial systems and moving into a more decentralized and free way of distributing wealth. A group that really helped motivate Tan to pursue crypto was a Facebook group of fellow traders. “I learned that one of the most alluring aspects of the crypto space is the community. Crypto communities grow and help each other together. You can’t find that feeling of participation anywhere else. It feels home here.”
Tan’s Tips for Crypto Beginners: “I highly suggest reading Bitcoin and Ethereum whitepaper. Here are the 5 basic principles that I wished people would have told me when I first joined the crypto space:
I. Not your keys, not your coin (Store your coin in a wallet where you hold the private key)
II. Buy a hardware wallet (It’s a secured way of storing your coin on a long term basis)
III. Never hold any emotion to a coin (Cut loss or take profit whenever possible)
IV. Gurus are crap (You are more likely to learn more from the community, and for free!)
V. Look at website domain carefully (Phishing websites are everywhere, and one mistake is all you need to lose your coins)”
Where is Torum Heading?: Tan believes that Torum will be the first crypto social media platform to ever achieve mainstream adoption and seeks to be the go-to entryway for beginners in cryptocurrency. The name Torum is a combination of the words “tokenized” and “forum”, it only fits that he and his team would create a platform similar to Twitter, but with the added incentive of being paid for your engagement.

Conclusion: Jayson Tan is a well accomplished member of the cryptocurrency community and is part of a huge movement to increase engagement and spread the word of crypto. The Torum platform is growing rapidly and not just in Asia. I write this from my living room in New Jersey, approximately 9,360 miles away from the founding location of Torum. If that doesn’t prove that Torum is already starting to connect the world, I don’t know what will.
