A transition in the local economy in Venezuela / Una transición en la economía local en Venezuela

In Venezuela, although there is a flexible quarantine regime, some establishments such as shopping malls have not been able to find a strategy to have more economic activity in their establishments. In fact, many stores have not opened since last year.

The stores where I used to buy my makeup, the spas where I went to get my eyebrows done and many other stores did not open anymore, possibly it was not profitable to have these establishments open and cover a payroll payment, a rent payment for premises and the basic expenses of electricity, internet and more.

The establishments that have managed to survive this situation are some clothing stores, the supermarket, beauty salons, the pharmacy and a couple of ice cream shops, and some stores selling electronic equipment. With all this situation many stores started to operate from home selling by delivery.

The employment economy is worsening and entrepreneurship is emerging.

We are in a situation where a salary is not enough to survive, so it is more ideal to start a business or work for results, a large amount of the youth population works as FreeLancer and offers services to people from different countries; instead of working in a store earning $20 or less per month, it is preferable to pay a course and learn to make graphic designs, this reality has led to the emergence of family businesses.

The sources of employment at the technology level are also very striking but the offers are very few.

Some of the main new businesses I have seen in the city where I live are related to:

• Local clothing design: There are some local brands that manufacture to sell in the city, nationally and also export.

• Sales of make-up and imported beauty products.

• Clothing and footwear store.

• Pastry shops: different niche brands have emerged, some sell donuts, others only churros and others only cakes and cookies.

• Fast food restaurants, they sell delivery without commercial premises, generally from home), some also provide a space for people to attend with prior reservation.

• Places to generate private experiences: Although these places are few, there are exclusive spaces where you can have a private party only with friends and family.

• Delivery companies: These are generally used by people who are outside of Venezuela, they buy the market from their families and send it to their homes.

• Beauty services: From fixing your hair, to painting your nails or having a facial treatment.

The biggest consumption is in three categories, food, clothing and beauty, so most of the enterprises are in those areas.

On the other hand, there are the *digital entrepreneurs such as bloggers, programmers, illustrators, marketers, entrepreneurs, traders, etc. I am part of this group of digital entrepreneurs and little by little we are increasing; I hope soon to organize an event and meet many more, most of us work online on our own or with our own companies, we offer services here and for other countries, we train and educate here in Venezuela and Latin America.

Undoubtedly the world is going through a transition stage, this reality has left out a group of people who have not adapted, and also opened opportunities for those who already visualized these changes. I hope the consequences in society are tolerable and that we can move towards a better economic situation.

Continúan las tiendas cerradas y los centros comerciales se notan muy vacíos, en Venezuela, aunque existe un régimen de cuarentena flexible algunos establecimientos como los centros comerciales no han logrado ubicar una estrategia para haya mayor actividad económica en sus establecimientos. De hecho, son muchas las tiendas que no abren desde el año pasado.

Las tiendas donde solía comprar mi maquillaje, los spas donde me iba a arreglar mis cejas y muchos otros locales no abrieron más, posiblemente no era rentable tener estos establecimientos abiertos y cubriendo un pago de nómina, un pago de alquiler por locales y los gastos básicos de electricidad, internet y más.

Los establecimientos que han logrado sobrevivir a esta situación son algunas tiendas de ropa, el supermercado, la farmacia y un par de heladerías, y algunas tiendas de ventas de equipos electrónicos. Con toda esta situación muchas tiendas empezaron a operar desde casa vendiendo por delivery.

La economía del empleo empeora y surgen emprendimientos

Estamos en una situación donde un salario no es suficiente para sobrevivir por lo que es más ideal emprender o trabajar por resultados, una gran cantidad de la población juvenil trabaja como FreeLancer y ofrece servicios a personas de diferentes países, es vez de trabajar en una tienda ganando 20$ o menos al mes, es preferible pagar un curso y aprender a realizar diseños gráficos, esta realidad ha llevado a que de hecho estén surgiendo empresas familiares.

Las fuentes de empleo a nivel de tecnología también son muy llamativas pero las ofertas son muy pocas.

Algunos de los principales emprendimientos que he visto en la ciudad donde vivo son referentes a:

• Diseño de ropa local
• Ventas de maquillaje y productos de belleza importados
• *Tiendas de ropa y calzados
• Servicios de repostería: han surgido diferentes marcas de nicho, algunas venden dona, otras solo churros y otras solo tortas y galletas.
• Restaurant de cocinas rápidas, venden delivery sin local comercial, generalmente desde casa), también algunas habilitan un corredor o un espacio para que las personas asistan previa reservación.
• Lugares para genera experiencias privadas: Aunque estos lugares son pocos, si los hay, espacios exclusivos donde puedes hacer una fiesta privada solo con amigos y familiares.
• Empresas de Delivery: Estas son generalmente usadas por personas que están fuera de Venezuela, compran el mercado a sus familias y se los envían hasta su casa.
• Servicios de belleza: Desde arreglar tu cabello, hasta pintar tus uñas o hacerte un tratamiento para el rostro.

El mayor consumo está en tres categorías, comida, ropa y belleza, por ello la mayoría de los emprendimientos son en esas áreas.

Por otro lado, están los emprendedores digitales como bloggers, programadores, ilustradores, marketeros, empresarios, traders, etc. Yo soy parte de este grupo de emprendedores digitales y poco a poco vamos en aumento; espero pronto organizar un evento y conocer a muchos más, la mayoría trabajamos en línea por cuenta propia o con empresas propias, ofrecemos servicios aquí y para otros países, capacitamos y educamos aquí en Venezuela y Latinoamérica.

Sin duda el mundo está pasando por una etapa de transición, esta realidad ha dejado afuera a un grupo de personas que no se han adaptado, y también abrió oportunidades para quienes ya visualizaban estos cambios. Espero las consecuencias en la sociedad sean tolerables y que podamos avanzar hacia una mejor situación económica.
