#bitcoin cannot be acquired for free, which is precisely why it is setting humanity free. -Robert Breedlove

Almost 3 years ago, I quit my part time student job, got out of an abusive relationship, and I was left with a fucked up mental health and an almost empty wallet. I was already on Steemit then, but because of my mental health, I was writing very few posts and had barely enough energy to just make it through a day. My boyfriend at the time knew that it was possible for me to make an income through Steemit, but he managed to convince me so well that it wasn't the case that I ended up taking his word for it.

Aside from emptying my reserve of sanity, he emptied my significant reserve of steem dollars that I had accumulated at the time. Needless to say, my crypto journey until then was off to a brutal start, but luck started to head my way once I found the courage to terminate this relationship.

On may of 2018, I made my first ever bitcoin transfer. First transaction on the blockchain! I was really proud of myself. I never thought that the newbie that I was (and still am) could make it happen. It felt surreal for me to be able to touch the fruit of my labour. Running shorter and shorter on money, I felt incredibly blessed and happy to have found a way to survive financially. Not only was I able to make enough to survive, but I also discovered a passion through Steemit - the passion of writing.

Crypto taught me the supreme importance of patience. And in a society where everything is instantaneous, this is of tremendous value. What we want in the present isn't what is necessarily best for our future. BTC is the ultimate reminder that if you want to win big, you have to discipline your mind. Emotional detachment is key. Checking the numbers every second of the day or making trades to get a quick buck isn't the optimal strategy, at least to my eyes.

Yesterday, 2 years and 6 months after my first bitcoin transfer, I got my first ever ledger and I couldn't be more excited to continue my learning journey with this new bad boy! Words aren't enough to describe how thankful I am.

Cheers to this next step of my journey!
