I've made a change to my stock holdings..
I made a change today in my stock portfolio. This should be official as of 9am 2/2/21 Anyway on to the change.
I have decided to drop my position in Verizon.
I initially wanted a bit of coverage in telcom, and went with Verizon mainly for that reason. Since that time, I have been reading and thinking about if it's the right company I want in my holdings. My reasoning in dropping them is this:
1. There's no real room for growth: The market is already saturated, and for VZ to continue to grow, they will have to steal market share from AT&T or TMobile. I don't see that as much room to grow rather than just shuffling what's already there. 2. They have no streaming platform as of this trade:** AT&T at least is launching a streaming service, and while that alone isn't enough to make me buy into AT&T, it makes me think that VZ will have to make some major moves to compete.
So what am I shifting into?
I'm moving my holdings into Energy Transfer (ET) This is admittedly a risky buy, BUT I feel that they have plenty of cash-flow, the debt they have is dirt cheap, and the stock itself is valued at 50% off (give or take) from its ATH. With a nice juicy 16% dividend yield that they have cash to cover for the foreseeable future. I feel this stock has a bit of room to run, especially as the country opens up a bit. And while it's possible that any more shutdowns could affect the long term plans, it's only going to be 6% of my portfolio. I see it as a medium-risk, high-reward stock.
Do not take anything I say as advice, I married an artist and have several cats.
