Is lab grown meat in the future?

There is a lot of discussion about plant based meats but that is not actual meat. Lab grown meat is truly derived from animal cells. Hence they are actually "growing" a chicken.

The price is now $7.70 per pound, still far above regular pricing but a huge drop from recent months.

These figures are significant for a couple reasons. First is the speed with which the company has brought down its production costs. Just six months ago, Future Meat’s cost of making cultured chicken was around $18 per pound. To be well below half that in less than a year’s time means the company’s methodology is working better than even they expected; the cost reduction actually exceeded an 18-month projection the company put out in May.

From what I read, with these meats, the question is not so much taste as texture. Going through this process results in the meat being different from what comes from slaughtering an animal.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
