As promised, I am back to feature some of the silver pieces from the Canadian "Voyage of Discovery" 2000 proof set I recently acquired.

And of course I'll start with the most prominent piece of the collection, the Canada's voyage of discovery 1 dollar.

Please excuse the glare, there's no chance I am taking this beauty out of the plastic cover with my dirty ol'hands 🤣

Front

The accompanying leaflet has all the info we need to know about this unique design:

The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to present the 2000 proof set of Canadian coinage. This is the only set available that features both the commemorative silver dollar and the aureate dollar depicting the common loon. The elegant book-style packaging, with removable lens, splendidly complements these fine coins.

It is often said that the future lies in space. Poised on the launchpad to the next millennium, Canada's voyage of discovery promises to be one of energy, ability, and achievement. The vast, final frontier is a prospect that is embraced by Canadians and celebrated on the reverse of the coin by artist Donald F. Warkentin. The design features a "crown" of lunar phases; a human figure outstretched toward the solar system; a stylized space shuttle and its boosters; solar panels reflecting the Earth's atmosphere; and robotic arms. Combined, these elements form a stylized maple leaf. The triangular shapes at its base symbolize the power of launch.

Back:

As expected, the back features a beautiful portrait of sexy Queen Eli at the ripe age of 64 by Dora de Pédery-Hunt.

According to the leaflet, there are no engravings or stuff on the edge which is a bummer considering this is such a nice hefty piece. It's probably the only thing missing from the piece

Purity of silver stands at a very respectable 0.925 of 25.175 grams:

As always, a size comparison with a standard monopoly euro coin:

Tldr. Beautiful design, high silver purity, and respectable weight. What's more to ask?
