Facebook Metaverse - Why it is so much Overhyped? 🤔
In my previous post here I shared how Facebook changed its name to Meta and officially announced the company's vision for its Metaverse.
So Let's today do an analysis on this metaverse vision of Facebook, and the hype this 'META' version of Facebook Inc has created since the announcement.
Due to this Rebranding of Facebook, the stock price rose sharply, and metaverse related cryptocurrencies also gained significant attention, leading to a price increase. It also created an opportunity to take a step forward and giving the public a chance to find out what the metaverse is.
Well, in simple words, Metaverse is just an advanced version of Internet or cyber world where users can interact with each other in real time 3 dimensional experience with the help of Virtual reality VR and Augmented reality AR Technologies. But if I see from the common man perspective it is simply making life more virtual and less independent. Does it actually have any value effect to the real world or value addition to the real life of people. Its only a big leap ahead for technology giants. Well the actual pros and cons of metaverse are still hard to predict for time being and we all can hope for the best only.
However, Facebook now Meta, jumping the ship at right time might not be a surprise if we see past records. The amalgamation of Instagram and WhatsApp is not the news of the long days. But this time it might be a bit late. Many other Big tech giants like Microsoft already working on their versions of metaverse and it's not something new but just this word is much hyped recently this year with boom of NFTs.
We are already experiencing virtual games, Artificial Intelligence, Driverless Cars etc which at a point of time in history seemed impossible. There had already been many improvements in 3D and VR experiences. So Now, Facebook jumping on the bandwagon, and Mark Zuckerberg promising a road map of next generation technology and better world is something hard to grasp and should definitely not be looked as whatever they are saying it gonna be.
Facebook (Meta) is already under strong pressure on data mining, privacy, security and content policy. META has made a vision with Mark Zuckerberg, and he is a driving organization. And he is enough to lose the present Meta because he is a fully qualified person, and he is necessary to led to the current meta because he is a smart enough to be smart. During his presentation he said, To completely implement applications of Metaverse, we are still technically deficient and we need collaboration among different companies and platforms. But is is that feasible? Can we expect Apple or Google coming hand in hand with Facebook to Shape this vision of Mark?
There may not be much longer time until the current metaverse becomes popular. Mark Zuckerberg made a major ignition point, and it seems to have been predicted and prepared for a long time ago. However, He will also need to accept multi-communication and distribution which will not take on one-way communication while accepting distribution and diversity, and to accept vast knowledge and skills that come to the future. And the pressure of government and regulatory agencies should also be smoothly flowed. He does not seem to have to try to go on the front.
In a way what Mark Zuckerberg's version of Metaverse promises to offer in virtual realm is the already existing layers of Digital world that these Digital Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube had already created. In the end its the user who will determine these mixed realities of virtual and digital world and how effective they adapt the Meta's Vision into their Virtual or Real Life.
