Adaptability and efficiently using the liquid funds available is incredibly important to become good investor. In the earlier days, I was focusing on capital efficiency, which served me well. All these good things came with its own drawbacks. At times I missed out on some excellent investment opportunities all because I did not have anything liquid.

These days I try to keep a small amount of liquid funds that I use to get in and out of small trades. It is not a lot of work and build better stability for my portfolio. The few passive income streams I have help to sustain this strategy.

Now Could Be The Time to Sell DEC

The DEC I have comes from renting Cards. Every few minutes I get some DEC added to my @splinterlands wallet. I was trying to wait till the soft peg of 1000 DEC for $1 get restored. Doing some basic Technical Analysis on the DEC price made me thing that there is a better way forward (especially considering the new developments regarding Soulbound Reward Cards).

Highlights from Official Announcement

Full version includes more descriptions which you may or may not find useful. These new changes will take effect on January 31st after the maintenance. Everyone is going to find out the details very soon. The key parts are:

The fact that these reward cards will eventually become transferable means that players will still be able to realize their value in the future, so this can also be viewed as a kind of long-term NFT staking.

As soon as the new reward cards are released they will replace the old reward cards in new loot chests.

Please note that season reward chests earned from the current season and earlier will still contain the old reward cards

the option for players to use Legendary and Alchemy potions to increase their chances of getting better rarity and gold foil reward cards when opening loot chests will be re-enabled.

Legendary and/or Alchemy potion charges will only be used when opening a loot chest that is randomly determined to contain reward cards, and only one charge will be used per chest.

Legendary Potions Now Double Chance for Both Legendary + Epic Cards

These are all dwarfed by a much more immediate concern that mess up many expected plans regarding "how things were supposed to happen." To understand this, we need help from a tool @kiokizz has developed.

The Devil is In The Details

There are three Legendary Cards that are going to have 5 times lower print rate than what was expected. Imagine the supply of an asset going down by 80%. I have made some very good trades buying Cards before they were about to run out of print. I have written about these purchases in the past. I should have invested more into Spirit Miner. The current prices are much higher even in the bear market compared to what I spent for it when it was still available in Rewards. I can say the same about many other Reward Cards (even after purchasing some of them from the market).

I Was Already Too Late

I read the announcement few hours after being published. The prices had already skyrocketed. I waited to see if there are any changes. The most pleasant change was the increase of DEC Price.

These prices are incredible for some Cards that are still in print. This is from the list of all Reward Cards sorted by their price.

Countess Sinash: The Easiest Purchase

I paid 5,902.830 DEC and it was a very useful move. I only needed 1 Card to reach Level 3. As a Yodin Zaku user, her Level 4 is not useful in most scenarios. In other words, it is as good a Max Level Card.

Other Factors to Consider

@splinterlands is more than an investment. There is a game and the Cards have a utility. This utility change based on each player's style and the Cards available. For an example I have Max Level Summoners for Death and Neutral Splinters.

Another aspect to consider is the possibility that Legendary Cards is lower printed amounts have been overly hyped up while the others are overlooked for the time being. For this reason, Harklaw gets my attention for the time being.

It will take a bit more time to collect enough DEC to get a Level Harklaw. I have my eyes on Venator Kinjo as a future purchase. I could wait till the end of Season to see if there will be more Legendary Reward Cards in Rewards Chests I open. There are few other Epic Cards I am interested in. Future is going to be tough with DEC-B coming up. There are so many purchases and very little liquidity.

Happy Investing!
