Nfts are becoming the next big hot word in crypto and they are be used from everything to games to art. If you do not know what an NFT is, it stands for non-fungible token and it is a digital item that has scarcity to it. Each item is a token and it can be traded and sold like a cryptocurrency. For example artists can make 10 prints of an artwork and sell them each as an NFT making them rare. Since they are on the blockchain people can verify each print and know if it is a legit copy.

Fashion might be one of the big nft areas as in-game clothes and AR clothing can also be made into an NFT. You're character can buy and wear a coat that is from a famous designer and be one of the only characters in the game to wear it. This does not take away from the gameplay as it is not pay-to-win but still creates a market where designers and gamers can earn.

The Digital Fashion Market

This could open a whole new world for any game with avatars in it where people can design clothes for the characters that could be sold on the market. There is no limit to what could be designed and it would be up to the designer themselves to decide how many copies of each piece of clothing they want to have on the market and the price of each clothing. This would lead to a lot more variety in skins and games and create a market for digital artists that did exist a week ago.

Smart Contract Perks

This is where things get crazy. Since NFTs can have smart contracts on them you can make the jacket give you yield farming or give you a piece of the daily sales from the fashion market. You can literally attach any contract to the NFT like you would Leo Power and give the NFT utility on top of aesthetics. You can have a popular brand that gives you a discount of that brand in real life if you buy their clothes online.

One Jacket, Several Worlds

Since NFTs can be used in multiple games this means that a hat bought on the market could be worn by several different characters in several different games. This leads to a market where fashion items can be bought outside of the game and used for avatars and kept in a wallet. This is a new world with items not being tied to a single game and digital fashion fits in it.

Brand Sponsorship

This could also lead to in-game brand sponsorship. Now that esports is becoming a global phenom, brands will wants to advertise on the characters in-game. With smart contracts you can make a company could make a jacket and tie a reward to it for wearing that is paid out to the users account. Hopefully it doesn't turn into that scene in Ready Player One where the corporation wants to take over and put ads everywhere so I hope it is kept small and doesn't take away from gameplay.

This is a complete new area where fashion designers can make money virtually and hopefully be able to pay their bills as they work on their new clothing line. Fashion can be an expensive business to get into and this might open up a less expensive avenue for designers to make money until they make it big in the real world.

It is way too early to tell how far this will go and if it will be the norm in games and social media but the technology is there and it is already starting to happen.
