Does Cutting Corners Cut Cost?
Last night I went to bed a bit angry because I didn't do as much as I set out to do during the day and today sort of turned out to follow suit. I did something that I thought was going to save me money but it ended up taking a lot of my time and time is money, so did I really save money?
So what happened was, I needed to use a plugin that costs $49.00 and I already was going to pay for it until I came across someone on my study group selling it for $12. It's like a group payment for a mega plan where it would have to be shared between everyone instead of paying for the individual plan.
I thought that was sweet until I came across another person offering to send a zip file containing this plugin for just $2.00!!! Good Lord! My eyes must have dilated when I saw that info. That meant I was going to be saving $47.00 in total. Actually, paying for my own plan offers me better value but I thought since I'm only practising, for now, I don't need the whole deal, I could always pay for my personal one later on.
That's how I sent my $2.00 to this person with so much quickness. Not one person on our group complained about the one of $12.00 or even the one I had paid for but when I tried using mine, it wasn't working right. The person had to put me through a step-by-step guide on how to carry out the installation and activation but it still didn't work.
To say I was frustrated is putting it lightly, my anxiety wasn't having it either. We spent hours trying to figure it out, hours that was meant for other activities. I already was regretting not going with the mega plan one because that one was actually legit but this on the other hand, seemed to be an 'illegal' copy (I'm not sure how these things work).
I gave up and hoped it would be different today, and yes, it worked today. I deleted the whole thing and started afresh and it finally worked. I breathed a sigh of relief but I was also unhappy about how much time I wasted. I actually saved $10.00 by not going with the other plan and $47.00 not choosing the personal plan, but the hours I spent trying to make the plugin work is worth more than $10.00.
In my opinion, cutting corners when done rightly cuts cost, you just need to weigh your pros and cons properly which I didn't do. It had sounded like a good deal cutting corners I won't lie, but I absolutely regret my decision in this case.
I had thought this was going to be faster and save me money but it came around to bite me. So did I really learn my lesson? because I'm still using it. What if it stops working and fails me just in the middle of work? Well, I'll just pay for the real thing then. #pennywisepoundfoolish
