This is exactly the question that new users should ask when they join HIVE. At what point does my upvote become meaningful?

I think we can find this answer by looking at the minimum payouts for HIVE and the different alt coins.

The minimum HIVE payout is 0.001 HP. Half of the reward goes to the author the other half to the curator. This means that your upvote value must be worth more than 0.00200 before you start getting reward.

If your upvote value is 0.0019; most of your curation rewards will be wiped out as dust. HiveStats.com shows upcoming curation rewards. If you have low HP, then you are receiving no curation rewards.

You can go to your activities page on Peakd.com. This is the activity page for @cflclosers

The account has 685 HP and seems to get curation rewards of about 0.015 for 100% upvotes.

The Two Cent Mark

The second cutoff is more illusive. A post must receive at least $0.02 HBD to get a reward. IF a post gets less than $0.02; then the system wipes away the reward as dust.

This cutoff changes with the price of HIVE. The upvote calculator shows the USD value of a given upvote ... according to their last recorded HIVE price, which is currently wrong.

You need about 900 HP for your upvote to be worth more than 0.02.

NOTE, you can give some of your HBD to @dustsweeper . Dusty will upvote posts with less than $0.02 in upcoming rewards.

All of the alt coins behave in similar fashion. As I recall you need to have at least 30 LEO for your upvote to get a 0.001 LEO curation reward.
