I read on Cointelegraph about an employer who demanded that payment made last year August should be refunded due to its 700% increase in value some days ago.

Reading this brought back memories of my previous work place where the employer went against the initial agreement of paying $60 and paid only $30 out of a whim and need to make more profit for himself.

I met the manager 2 days ago and asked how they fared last month and she told me he still said he'd pay the $30 due to lack of profit caused by him.

What bothered me the most about the statement this manager made was the fact that everyone who claimed to leave the same time I was leaving is still there.

She told me about how they were trying to cut corners in the business through ways he wouldn't notice in order to get some extra money for themselves.

The worse part is, he never even pays on-time. The salaries of March were paid around the third week of April. And those of April are not even talked about yet.

The situation with the employee who was paid in crypto and asked to return his pay, and these workers are not entirely the same, however, the attitude of bosses is what eludes me.

If for instance the value of the crypto had dropped 700% rather that risen 700%, would the employer still demand it back and offer to pay them the value of their work on fiat?

I have never been an employer, so I can't say I understand the struggles that come with sitting behind a desk and telling people what to do, however, how selfish could a human be?

Unlike the crypto worker, workers here in Nigeria have no rights that I know of. They cannot sue the boss because there was no formal agreement from the on-set. There were no documents signed and there was no lawyer present when he said he would pay $60. The payment offer was simply a word-of-mouth agreement.

Is it possible to hold bosses accountable for such fraudulent behavior?

They'll definitely have the better lawyers and the extra money to blow on a lawsuit, which the employees won't have.

It makes me wonder - Do the people ever win?
