What a difference four years makes and how much has happened in that time, the one-trick pony called STEEM, the worlds first blockchain-based platform has attracted all sorts to its community and chain. While STEEM still exists, HIVE and to an extent BLURT are expansions of the ecosystem as a whole. The basic premise of all the chains is still seen by many as a cryptocurrency reward in exchange for your content platform, but it has become so much more.

The chain now has gaming, NFT's and other dapps all vying for resources, users and making the ecosystem a richer experience.

While the vast majority of users are still blogging and curating for rewards and some selling for Bitcoin and into fiat, your HIVE income can be used for so much more than a way to get additional fiat but can become different passive income vehicles.

I realise that some may feel they NEED the money, but delaying gratification and reinvesting your income from blogging and curating could build you several streams of income.

Tokens

Token collecting and trading is by far the easiest way to earn; you could be posting on STEEM, HIVE, BLURT and then leveraging the various front ends/tribes to earn their native token, then stockpiling your wallet with a range of tokens all fluctuating in different price ranges and offering different reward levels for your content.

Your content may not be rewarded on the base layer, but your second layer could be netting you a far better return, so it's always worth cross-posting when applicable to your content.

This can effectively double, triple or quadruple your ability to earn from a single piece of content or upvote as you build your stake and vote on various pieces of content too.

Leasing and delegating

If tribes are your thing you may not need all that HIVE in your wallet to work for curation or you may be too busy to curate yourself, while you can set your account to automate you may want to delegate your stake in HIVE or Tribes to projects that will pay you a dividend.

If you're not keen on projects, why not lease your HIVE or STEEM to users who will pay you for it via the dlease marketplace.

Note: - Now that LEO is outstripping HIVE, I'd love to see it set up its own lease market as we see with dlease.

Gaming and NFTs

Some of us are not bloggers or content creators, some like to read and comment, some like to game, and some want to create works of art.

Applications like Splinterlands and dCity have become popular ways to earn tokens without having to put content on the chain every day. NFT's allow you to create custom pieces and then sell them for HIVE with the likes of NFT showroom.

Peakmonsters allows you to rent out your Splinterlands cards for a daily rental fee, and the ways to earn there continue to grow.

Trading

We've all seen the hype about Uniswap, but we have dswap too, we have STEEM-Engine, Hive-Engine and LEODex where you can look for opportunities to buy and sell tokens and net a profit from your trades between various tokens.

Group investments & miners

If you're not into all the trading and active work and you like passive things like delegations where others do the work and reward you for supporting their project, you may want to look at group investing or miner tokens.

Miner tokens are unique tokens on HIVE engine that you can buy for a specific tribe, stake them and get tokens in return for holding those miners. It essentially provides you with tokens from a preferential pool that can only be tapped into via these mining tokens.

@hivebuilder and @spinvest are projects that look outside HIVE for opportunities for their token holders. Buying tokens like (HBT) Hive Builder Token or (SPI) SPinvest Token and merely holding them will net you a passive income.

They use the income generated from their stakeholders and use it to invest in various projects, and you get exposure to different investments and net yourself a return.

In 4 years, this place has come a long way and don't have to blog, curate and sell like the old days. The ecosystem is starting to broaden the use of the various tokens and beginning to reach outside the HIVE ecosystem for opportunities too.

Have your say

What do you good people of HIVE think? How are you diversifying the income you get from HIVE?

So have at it my Jessies! If you don't have something to comment, comment "I am a Jessie."
