Pumping posts via Facebook is a good strategy, but when done differently.
One of the things Google is known to monitor and act almost instantaneously on is “live traffic”.
Obviously, as operator of Google Analytics — having invested millions and millions in cleansing of data so barely any faked traffic is counted — Google is in a prime position to monitor live traffic and use as a metric for sending traffic. To Google live traffic (measured via GA and its social platforms monitoring) is considered a measure of credibility for that site.
Over the years many people have noticed that when running a FB ad for some days, in those days Google would send more traffic to their site over those few days, and the next day.
So if there’s an ad budget, create a list of “evergreen” content and occasionally throw few bucks at those posts. It will also longterm contribute to their ranking in the SERPS improving.
