Aircoins is a game I discovered about a year ago. It’s an augmented reality game like Pokemon go, but instead of catching pokemon, you can catch real cryptocoins. This game isn’t going to help you get rich quick, but it’s fun and encourages you to go outside. And it earns more than catching pokemon.

What is it?

Aircoins can best be described as an augmented reality treasure hunt. Crypto coins are distributed all around the globe. In order to catch them you need to go out on the streets just like Pokemon Go.
In the app you have a map which shows you where the nearest coins are.

When a coin is within 80 meters you can switch to augmented reality and click on the coin to collect it. The coin is saved in a wallet inside the app.
When you cleared an area or at least caught most of the coins in your area you will get a respawn and new coins will appear.

# Which coins can you collect? To start with you can collect the Aircoins coin. This is the coin that is linked to the app itself. Apart from Aircoins you can collect tens of different coins. Usually these are from new projects that want to get some exposure and distribute their coins via the Aircoins app. You can look at it as an airdrop. Some of the coins are worthless now, but some of the projects are still active. A few months ago aircoins added one of the more popular coins to the platform; Dash. And in the months after that a few more big players followed like XLM, Doge, Ripple and Tron.

Earnings

As I already mentioned at the beginning of the blog, this game isn’t going to get you rich very quick.
You don’t collect the complete coins, but only parts of it. It would have been great to collect a complete Dash! Tron for instance is distributed in coins of 0.1 TRX. And the price of 1 TRX is 0,02 at the moment.
And since the well known coins are more rare it will take you a while to make some money.

An option to transfer the collected coins has been promised for a long time, but still not developed. You can request a payout via a form, but because of the high fees (based on ERC20) you need to collect at least $20,- of a certain coin at the moment. You can calculate how many TRX you need to collect for that. That’s going to take ages.

If it doesn’t make you rich, why do you keep playing?

There are a number one reasons why I keep playing this game. One is that it’s easy. You can do it anywhere; during a walk, while shopping or when you’re waiting at the bus stop.
Number two is because it’s healthy; you need to go outside.
Number three because it’s exciting. It’s always nice to find one of the more rare coins. It’s fun to trigger a respawn and get new coins. And what if one of these projects I collected a lot of coins from gets bigger and bigger….
