This number is not a date but it can be, write down so as not to forget that most likely on November 14 of this year when block 709632 is reached in the bitcoin blockchain, the light improvement will be implemented automatically or if you prefer in English "soft folk" known as Taproot, an important change after more than 4 years of waiting since that distant 2017 when the last update of the system called SegWit was carried out, which at that time aimed to alleviate the load of the network by separating the cryptographic signatures of the data on the blockchain.

This new update has several improvements mainly in matters related to security, but pointing towards greater functionality with respect to an issue in which it has been losing from the beginning and fundamentally with its biggest competitor, Ethereum: smart contracts.

Regarding security, Schnoor firms will be implemented in Taproot that aims to reduce the size and confirmation times of transactions, mainly in those where multi-signatures are registered and where the algorithm reduces them to a single one. The other important improvement is Mast (Merkelized Abstract Syntax Trees), providing bitcoin scripting with greater flexibility and scalability, essential conditions for improving smart contracts.

This improvement in scripting will allow, for example, to solve a problem that worries many, admit that an alternative holder designated in a wallet can take control of it if the primary holder does not use it for a certain period of time. Of course, both components include several additional enhancements that are not the purpose of this publication to explain.

We will then wait for block 709632 or for November 14 if you prefer, I do not think that it changes too much for us simple users, not at least in what we can see from the outside, but if the speed in the network, the security and the capacity of providing the ecosystem with greater intelligence and functionality are expanded, surely we will be better.

Este número no es una fecha pero puede serlo, anoten para no olvidarse que muy probablemente el 14 de noviembre de este año cuando se alcance el bloque 709632 en la cadena de bloques de bitcoin, se implementará en forma automática la mejora liviana o si prefieren en inglés “soft folk” conocida como Taproot, un cambio importante luego de más de 4 años de espera desde aquel lejano 2017 cuando se realizó la última actualización del sistema llamada SegWit, que apuntó por aquel entonces a aliviar la carga de la red al separar las firmas criptográficas de los datos en la cadena de bloques.

Esta nueva actualización tiene varias mejoras principalmente en asuntos relacionados con la seguridad, pero apuntando hacia una mayor funcionalidad respecto a un tema en el que ha venido perdiendo desde un comienzo y fundamentalmente con su mayor competidor, Ethereum: los contratos inteligentes.

Respecto a la seguridad se implementarán en Taproot las firmas Schnoor que apuntan a reducir el tamaño y los tiempos de confirmación de las transacciones fundamentalmente en aquellas donde se registran multifirmas y donde el algoritmo las reduce a una sola. La otra mejora de importancia es Mast (Merkelized Abstract Syntax Trees) dotando al scripting de bitcoin de una mayor flexibilidad y escalabilidad, condiciones indispensables para mejorar los contratos inteligentes.

Esta mejora en el scripting permitirá, por ejemplo, solucionar un problema que preocupa a muchos, admitir que un titular alternativo designado en una billetera pueda hacerse del control de la misma si el titular primario no la utiliza por un determinado período de tiempo. Por supuesto que ambos componentes incluyen varias mejoras adicionales cuya explicación no es el objetivo de esta publicación.

Esperaremos entonces al bloque 709632 o al 14 de noviembre si prefieren, no creo que nos cambie demasiado a nosotros los simples usuarios, no al menos en lo que podemos apreciar desde afuera, pero si la velocidad en la red, la seguridad y la capacidad de dotar al ecosistema de mayor inteligencia y funcionalidad son ampliadas, seguramente estaremos mejor.
