I don't spend a lot of time around news services, including crypto news, but I find it strange that there is very little out there in the mainstream media about Bitcoin and crypto at the moment. Sure, it isn't at the highs of 2017, but the price is up 2.5x since March this year and Ethereum is up 3x in the same period. Back at the ATH, the price of these two tokens were getting mentioned in the finance sections of news broadcasts - what's the deal?

Maybe it is like the Olympics, where a world record needs to be broken for anyone outside of fans of the sport to care and then, they listen to the commentary, learn a few details and talk about it with friends as if they have been die-hard enthusiasts for years. I think that the internet is a great place for this kind of behavior in general, as anyone can get a few details quickly and feel they are now qualified to debate it.

We tend to focus our attention on what are the highs and the lows of life, which is again, great for the internet, as it is able to cherry pick the best and worst of us and send it viral. I remember reading a story about a warlord somewhere in Africa being asked by a journalist why they cut off the arms of children. He replied that it was for attention, as it was because it was the only way to get journalists to the region.

The problem with this method is of course, the next round of highs and lows are going to have to be a little more extreme to grab the collective attention. We are in information sewers and the flow of shit is so thick and fast, the only things that stand out to us are the peaks and troughs of social drama.

I think that the next ATH for Bitcoin is going to take more of the collective imagination and attention than it did in the last run up, as the global economic and social conditions are in a worse state now. With a lot of people hurting financially and people waking up to the problems with printing money and bailing out corporations, an asset that is increasing in value, allows pretty much anyone to buy and has less ties to government, should become very attractive.

This should also wash across all of crypto, as people become more aware of the space in general and start to pay attention to the stories of the tech giants "getting in" on the scene. It becomes like when a person is thinking of buying or just gets a particular car, they start to see them everywhere. That is when all of those little mentions and gateways into crypto become important, as they build a case for the average user to get into the scene - they start to find Brave browser, Splinterlands and Hive - they start to see that there is far more to it than the criminal activity they see in movies and, the barrier of entry comes down to the point they give it a try and once one does, it is far more likely that two more will also.

I hope we do a better job of managing the influx than we did last time, at least now, we have communities, second-layer tokens and some pretty cool interfaces and niche frontends to service interests. It is far from ideal and the hope would be to have a lot more simplicity, but it is getting there and perhaps with a strong run on HIVE and with the HDF, we could attract people who add more collateral to the ecosystem, to spread and diversify usage further, which also gives a little protection for the inevitable crashes to follow.

Pretty much everyone who is active on Hive is now somewhat of a survivor, who was able to make it through a fair amount of downturn and turmoil, because they saw the potential in the future of Hive in some way. It could be the rise in price, but it could also be the chance to invest, the possibility of self-sufficient tokenized communities, the benefits of feeless transfers or just the desire to have a space that they can stake as their own. Ownership should form a key part of the Hive narrative and be repeated often until it is ingrained in the culture of the community at all levels.

Like it or not, the world of consumption is driven by the mainstream media through the attention they direct, which means that in order to get noticed, we have to be like the warlord - though we can take the other end of the normal distribution. Instead of the terror, we could become the shining example of a global community of the new economies and the records we can break are ones of betterment that a group of global strangers can accomplish, without an authority in sight.

As one of the people who sees and supports the potential, it is frustrating when those who don't continually undermine the community. There is a saying, "one man's trash is another's treasure" and I think that we have a treasure map in hand, that many believe is rubbish. There are X's all over the place.
