Most of the time when I write for the HODL contest, it’s to educate other people on things I already know. But this time is a little different because until I saw this prompt, I never really knew what Leo Magazine is about. I mean, I’ve seen @zestimony make a compilation of posts on LeoFinance before, but I never really understood what he was doing. Even before I learnt it was actually Leo Sponsored, I thought it was a really great idea.

Why the need for a Leo Magazine?

Let’s first understand what magazines are, and then look at it from a LeoFinance perspective after. So magazines basically are regularly published compilations meant to highlight a variety of content.

LeoFinance is a very busy community, and even though we still don’t have the numbers we look forward to in the future, there’s a huge influx of articles into the community on a daily basis. So much such that many outstanding articles might be buried under the mountain pile of articles and not get seen by the community.

The LeoMagazine carries a compilation of outstanding articles covering finance, money, blockchain crypto, NFTs, DeFi and more that might not have been noticed by the community. Are you seeing how it is important to have a magazine that highlights outstanding content already?

A Filter Of Awesome Content To Check Out

Like I already mentioned, the Leo Magazine covers a variety of interesting articles. This supplies the community and readers of the magazine diverse quality articles to check out. Finance lovers will find finance-related articles in the magazine, and so will crypto lovers.

Attention To Undervalued Posts

Hive is complex system and for the most part, growth and success depends partly on visibility. Newbies mostly don’t get much visibility when they just start out. Having their posts featured in the magazine will be a great way to give them exposure and publicity to the community. Another example of a great example in which this feature of the Leo Magazine applied on Hive is the OCD curation reports where curated posts and authors are highlighted. Another example is the HeyHaveYaMet

The Leo Magazine covers fresh articles posted within a 7-day range. This allows for the highlight and curation of fresh posts and not posts that could be weeks or even months old and can no longer be voted.

Better way of advertising LeoFinance to the outside

If single post links shared to Twitter directs some traffic here, imagine what a compilation of interesting articles will do. The magazines will satisfy many more people on Twitter than a single article will because of the variety of posts it covers.

Initiatives like posh which incentivizes sharing posts outside of Hive to generate traffic here already exists, and encouraging people to share more magazines or compilations will be a great step up from advertising Hive through one post, to advertising through one post linking to several posts.

What Can Be Added To Improve Leo Magazine?

Introducing a bias to boost visibility for new lions

The Leo Magazine is written in an unbias way, and my suggestion to improve the Leo Magazine is to introduce a bit of a bias that boosts new lion’s visibility. Here’s what I mean.

Maybe after highlighting general interesting articles, the magazine could feature in a different section, specifically articles of newbies. And “Newbie” status could be determined by many standards, reputation and LP included. Maybe new lions with less than a certain rep and LP have their own section in the magazine where their high quality and interesting articles are marketed to give them exposure and visibility.

Incorporating Threads Into The Magazine

As we sit, the Leo Magazine only features Long Form content. But I think it’ll be a great idea to start featuring threads in a section of the magazine. Right now threads is mostly used to promote posts by threading links. So I guess you could say featuring threads would simply be equivalent to featuring those posts. But it really isn’t.

I’ve seen some really cool threads you could consider interesting recently that weren’t post links, and I felt the said threads needed more visibility. It’s not like threads can be reblogged or anything so I could go “Hey that’s a cool ass thread, so I’m going to rethread so more people can see it”. The Leo Magazine can be the big rethread for outstanding threads. To encourage threading, threaders who have their threads featured could even be given small prizes in the form of an upvote. Call it Magazine Thread Contest if you like.

How Is Leo Magazine Different From Other Forms Of Magazine?

There are several magazines like the Leo Magazine out there, but the features that makes it special are actually attributed to it’s association with LeoFinance.

Hive as we know it, values unique original content, and LeoFinance being one the biggest and strongest communities there are on Hive, rides on this hill as well. Every article in the Leo Magazine is free from plagiarism and shows proof of brain because only the best of the best articles are featured on it. So it suffices to say that the Leo Magazine is a mine of raw untapped finance articles.

Here’s why you should follow Leo Magazine

Discover articles and creators

It’s a place to discover not just interesting articles, but awesome creators. One of the best things that excites me in modern social media is watching creators and celebrities grow. But what is even better is not just watching, but supporting them, being involved and impacting their growth in the course of their journey. There’s a lot of potential among the creators here both in already experienced creators and new lions, and most of them are hidden or masked because of the busy nature of the community. The Leo Magazine helps shine some light on them and gives them a bit of a spot light to showcase themselves. This is why I earlier suggested a kind of a new lions section in the magazine.

Stay Updated on the latest finance, crypto and tech gossip

The fact that the Leo Magazine features fresh articles not more than 7 days old means that the featured posts give you information from recent events. Next week’s magazine for example will most likely feature some articles about the current state of the crypto market- whether or not we’re still in the bear market, how prices are looking, what to expect in the next few days, weeks or months.

You don’t get old articles whose content are no longer relevant in current affairs chocked down your throat.

Simplifies curation for the busy

If you’re someone on a busy schedule that loves to do manual curation but is not around to curate and vote most of the time. The Leo Magazine might be of help to you in some way. Like I said earlier, the magazine highlights interesting articles you might find worthy of curation and narrows the hassle of having to go through several days or even weeks worth of articles, to fresh articles. Obviously you don’t have to stay limited to only the articles in the magazine.

The Leo Magazine is one of the less popular leo products even though it’s been around for a while. Strategies need to be taken to improve its scope and market it properly to attract not just lions, but even outsiders to the community.

I'm shouting out to @rubilu, @yahuzah, @zzzinnn and @gunu1 to share on Leo Magazine as a Leo Product too.
