Playing The Long Game On Hive

A couple of days ago, something astounding happened... On a typical day, I like to leverage my audience on legacy social media for the benefit of LeoFinance and Hive. Since I started over there years before creating my space on the blockchain, I have a much larger follower base over my many social media accounts.

Incubation

I had left a tweet and was about to go when I decided to check my stats as I am wont to do. And there it was... Someone had retweeted a tweet I wrote inviting them to join me in my new home. The amazing thing? The tweet was posted four years ago in 2018, and was an invitation to join me on Steemit.

Since tweets are indexed by Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines (just like web pages), I've long advocated for my fellow Hiveians to blog with them in mind. I regularly get responses to tweets posted months ago, and it's one of the reasons I keep chugging along even when my posts don't always gain much traction here on Hive.

After I ran into financial difficulties early in the year (just as things were humming along), I had to liquidate assets so that me and the terminal relative I support could get by. This robbed me of the growth and influence my account had built up since I "staked my claim to the blockchain" way back in July, 2017 after over a year of lurking on the then nascent Steemit.

This is one of the reasons I tell new (and old) people here not to get lost in the singular focus on whale upvotes. That's like chasing a Unicorn sighting. It's amazing when it happens, but it comes and goes like the wind. Build your presence on Hive with that larger outside audience in mind.

The search engines are your friends.

Use them to help grow on Hive.

Taking Flight

If you spent six hours writing an amazing post and almost nobody on Hive saw it, don't despair. Keep that bigger picture in mind. Remember; a post I wrote over four years ago, is still having an impact.

Your posts are being seen. That's what you need to keep top of mind.

If tweets on Twitter are being indexed by Google, it makes sense that Threads are on LeoFinance. And the sooner that other front-ends start hooking Threads into their services, the larger that influence will be. See how exciting this is?

I'm pumped about the future of LeoFinance in general and Threads in particular. The same can be said for the ever-growing resource we have right here in LeoGlossary.

So if I write a post and it gets "only" $0.02 in upvotes, trust me, I'm grateful that it got any at all. That's $0.02 more than I went to bed with. Until I'm able to build up my Hive and Leo Power, my account won't be as attractive to potential upvoters as some others are, so that's why I keep showing up, stacking, (and staking), those tokens.

But I also know that my work here is being shared to a much larger audience outside of Hive, and will keep showing up in search results for many years to come, just like that post I wrote in 2018. So keep building on Hive and don't ever give up! :)
