Strategy is very important in battles, if we can figure out how the opposing player will team up and their strategy, the chance of defeating the opponent will increase. I usually set my strategy according to the opponent, it works most of the time and it is possible to beat even the strongest and toughest teams this way. In order to determine a good strategy, I first review the opposing player's last 5 battles and consider the ruleset of the battle. If I can analyze the strategy of the opposing player or the team that the opposing player will form, my chances of winning the battle increase.

Of course, having a powerful deck is very important, but it is in our hands to make them more effective in battles with powerful strategies. Many players care about strategy and struggle to find the best strategy in battles. When I encounter opponents that are more powerful than my deck, I avoid teaming up with a strategy as they expect and prefer to surprise them with my strategy. Otherwise, my chances of beating them will be very small anyway, and this way my chances of beating them increase.

Battle Ruleset
Healed Out
Heavy Hitters
Mana Cap 40

  • Healed Out rule means all healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners.
  • Super Sneak rule means all Melee attack Monsters have the Sneak ability.

Sneak Ability : Targets the last Monster on the enemy Team instead of the first Monster.

My Strategy

Before starting the battle, when I reviewed the last 5 battles of the opposing player, I saw that the opposing player had quite powerful cards. The battle ruleset had the Super Sneak rule and it would make much more sense to choose Melee Attack Monsters in such a battle, but considering the cards the opposing player had, it was almost impossible for me to win this battle with Melee Attack Monsters. That's why I had to come up with a different strategy in this battle. Frankly, I had a better chance of winning this battle with Magic Attack Monsters, so I decided to go for Magic Attack Monsters. But I had to take into account that the opposing team would attack my team's last positions. So I thought it would work if I put Monsters with Dodge Ability and Flying Ability in the last positions. Also, I had to take into account that the opposing player might prefer Magic Attack Monsters. And I determined my strategy and the line-up of my team accordingly.

Line Up

Summoner : ALRIC STORMBRINGER

I chose Alric Stormbringer as the Summoner as I will prefer Magic Attack Monsters in this battle and for them to be able to attack targets more powerfully. Alric Stormbringer gives +1 Magic Attack to all friendly Magic Attack Monsters. Thanks to him, Magic Attack Monsters would be able to attack targets more powerfully.

The oldest ΛZMΛRÉan Summoner, Alric Stormbringer, founded the modern arts of Chaos Magic. He has many pupils from around the Splinterlands. Alric’s gift is not so much bringing the storm, but channeling it. He has lived for hundreds of years, and some stories claim he was alive before the Splintering. Source

Position 1 : DJINN OSHANNUS

Djinn Oshannus is a quite powerful Monster with the Void Ability and the Phase Ability at level 2 that attacks the target with Magic Attacks. Also, Djinn Oshannus is a very fast Monster and can defend quite well against most monsters, especially when upgraded to level 2. Djinn Oshannus has a chance to evade not only Magic Attack Monsters but also Melee and Ranged Attack Monsters. Frankly, I believed that Djinn Oshannus would be able to defend powerfully no matter what strategy the opposing player teamed up with. Also, Djinn Oshannus attacks targets powerfully. That's why I put him in the first position.

  • Void Ability : Reduced damage from Magic attacks.
  • Phase Ability : Magic attacks can miss this Monster (using the same hit/miss calculation as for Melee and Ranged attacks).

Dawn of the Djinn 3 of 4 - The Djinn are angry at the way they were tricked by the Planet, but also appreciative that they can now enjoy this limited freedom, each trapped by natural forces. The Djinn possess powerful ancient magic of their own, which is now charged into the force of one element for each of them. The ancient demons of war are an awkward bunch to be chosen as a planetary defensive force, but they are also impressively capable of the job. As long as they are bound by the Planet, they will do its bidding. Whatever their would-be choices and allegiances, they will fight against the Chaos Legion to protect the sixth mana gate. Source

Position 2 : NERISSA TRIDAWN

Nerissa Tridawn doesn't have any abilities, but she is a powerful monster that can attack the target very powerfully. That's why I added Nerissa Tridawn to the team and put her in second position. Additionally, Nerissa Tridawn has 3 Magic Attacks , 2 speed, and 9 health at level 1.

Nerissa is a proud warrior of the water. Armed with her enchanted trident, she defends the seas, the rivers, and the lakes. She is well known across coastal villages, and they often call on her for help. She has slain great sea beasts that would otherwise kill everyone in their path. She has rescued sailors from hurricanes, and even warned villages of incoming tsunamis to save lives. Her bravery and brilliance in battle have led to her being called Nerissa the Hurricane.

Nerissa was born and raised by the ocean, and could swim before she could walk. She always felt the sea called to her. And within her it stirred a deep magic. An ancient mana of tides and waves. Nerissa answered the call, and travels between the continents of the Splinterlands.

When settlers and explorers made their way to Praetoria, Nerissa was there to help with every step of the journey. But the blight that gripped the land worried her deeply. Its corruption spread into the waters that she loved so dearly. She often caught herself crossing paths with Igor the Finback and his tribe of Trench Dwellers. Each time she had to pull back or risk all of them attacking her at once.

When Nerissa learned of the deeper plot of the Chaos Legion, she vowed to defend Praetoria and its inhabitants with her life. Source

Position 3 : VENARI WAVESMITH

I added Venari Wavesmith with the Protect Ability to my team because I thought all the monsters on my team would need the extra armor badly in this battle. Venari Wavesmith has 1 Magic Attack, 3 Speed, 4 Health at level 3 and the Protect Ability from level 1. Thanks to Venari Wavesmith, all monsters in my team would have +2 Armor. I put Venari Wavesmith in third position on my team to avoid being targeted by enemy attacks.

  • Protect Ability : All friendly Monsters gain +2 Armor.

Banished from Below 3 of 5 - A massive race of rat-like people called venari have lived in the Strite for thousands of years. They are skilled technicians and mechanics who can make advanced devices and tools the likes of which Splinterlanders have never seen. The venari control powerful forms of magic that they have synthesized from the minerals and mana flows of the Strite. Through their complex field of science called smithing, they have been able to create and recreate many types of natural and magical phenomena from any magical element. Source

Position 4 : SPIRIT HOARDER

Spirit Hoarder has 1 Magic Attack, 1 Speed, 3 Health and the Triage Ability at level 1. Triage Ability wouldn't work in this battle due to the Healed Out rule, but the reason I chose Spirit Hoarder was because it only cost 3 mana. I put Spirit Hoarder in fourth position as he only has 3 health.

  • Triage Ability : Heals the friendly back-line Monster that has taken the most damage.

When the Chaos Legion opened their portals to begin the invasion of Praetoria, the great vortexes tugged at the edges of time and space, drawing in matter from other realms. These portals were so powerful that other beings were dragged through against their will, snatched from their own worlds. And so it was that the Spirit Hoarder found itself walking the lands of Praetoria. No one truly knows where it originated from, but the consensus remains the same: They wish the Spirit Hoarder would return and no longer blight the Splinterlands with its wicked presence.

Described as almost dryad-like in its appearance by the few that have lived to tell the tale, the Spirit Hoarder is a faceless creature aside from two large, yellow eyes. Its body is a deep green with tributaries of aqua blue running through its skin, converging into jagged dorsal vertebrae along its back, and the uneven ruts of its head almost look like broken wood jutting away from the otherwise smooth and serene outline of its body. The alien appearance of this creature makes it difficult to tell where it resided on its home world, and it is likely at some point in evolution its habitat was in water, but now it is clear that it makes its home on solid ground and is completely terrestrial.

Granted, it is a docile looking creature, but the gnarled staff it carries, with branches twisted into a series of synchronised patterns, holds a sinister, spinning orb of power. It is a mystic force, the likes of which has never been seen before. This is the Vault of Spirit Hoarders and the one true source of its power. If one were to look at the orb closely enough, they would see the tormented spirits drifting inside, desperate to be free of the anguish prolonged by their eternal prison. What makes the Spirit Hoarder so utterly terrifying, though, is the indifference in which it stalks the land. The Spirit Hoarder cares not of the source of souls it takes, with both Praetorians and Chaos Legion having fallen victim to its obscene harvesting. Source

Position 5: RUNEMANCER KYE

Runemancer Kye is a very powerful Monster that can attack the target with Magic Attacks and has 2 Magic Attacks, 3 speed, 5 armor, 8 health the Flying Ability and the Life Leech Ability at level 1. The most important reasons I added Runemancer Kye to my team in this battle was because she has 5 Armor, 8 Health, Flying Ability, and Life Leech Ability, so I put her in fifth position. It is not very easy to destroy Runemancer Kye due to her armor, health and abilities.

  • Flying Ability : Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability.
  • Life Leech Ability : Monster's health increases each time it damages an enemy Monster's health in proportion to the damage dealt.

As a siren, Azura Kye loves spending her days in the sky and her nights deep beneath the waves. She is a third-generation Riftwatcher who grew up listening to her grandparent’s stories of the Chaos Legion’s invasion of their homeworld, Lemell.

Azura learned to fight at a young age and grew to become a renowned sorceress. She also has an incredible aptitude for runemancy and has developed a variety of mana-infused weapons and gadgets for her allies to employ in their fight against the Chaos Legion. On the battlefield, she has proven herself repeatedly, facing off against the Legion’s scouts on various realms and harassing their forces with clandestine, insurgent tactics. Once, she even single-handedly brought down a kraken.

Subsequently, she rose quickly through the ranks of the Riftwatchers. Time passed, and so too did the old guard. Azura was an obvious choice to replace them. Honored to follow in the footsteps of her predecessors, she now wears the mantle of Runemancer. She is a natural leader and a champion of the people, dedicating her life to stopping the Chaos Legion threat. Source

Position 6: CHAOS AGENT

Chaos Agent has no attack power, but is a monster that only costs 1 mana and has the Dodge Ability from level 2. He also has 3 speed and 2 health at level 4. The most important reason why I chose Chaos Agent in this battle was that he costs 1 mana and has the Dodge Ability. I thought the Sneak Monsters might miss him a few times, which would give my team a significant advantage in battle, so I put him in the last position.

  • Dodge Ability : Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks.

Inexplicably conjured from the Chaos plane before the rift was opened, Chaos Agents have been deployed for years in the Splinterlands to sow dissent and fear amongst the people. These infiltrators have an almost demonic appearance that is subtle enough to avoid detection and they keep their form concealed beneath dark cloaks and hoods. They never stay in one place for long, just enough time to whisper their words of rebellion and uncertainty amongst the people before slipping away without trace, leaving no evidence of their plans or existence for people to follow.

As the time neared for the Chaos Gate to open, these spies intensified their efforts to include sabotage and assassination, resulting in the destruction of many prominent figures and buildings throughout the Splinters.

These agents of chaos don’t carry any weapons and weren’t intended as soldiers. Subtle words and targeted destruction are their gifts, and they employ them with precision, carefully choosing their victims to create the most confusion and misdirection possible in preparation for their master’s invasion. They enjoy the speed and agility of assassins, being able to dodge most attacks, usually leaving their attacker in a confused mess and wounded by their own weapons.

Battle Comments

To be honest, the opposing player's strategy was also pretty good and the opposing team was very powerful as I expected. Also, if I were the opposing player, I would add a Monster with Amplify Ability to such a team, it would really put the team in a lot of trouble, luckily the opposing player didn't.

  • Amplify Ability : Increases Magic Reflect, Return Fire, and Thorns damage to all enemy monsters by 1.

In the first round, the Monsters on my team attacked the first position Monster on the opposing team and managed to destroy him. But the monsters on the opposing team had a very hard time dealing damage to Chaos Agent. Indeed, Chaos Agent was excellent in this battle, despite only having 2 health and 2 armor, the opposing team attacked 8 times to destroy him and missed in 6 of them. This was really unbelievable. Chaos Agent performed much better than I expected and it was really frustrating for the opponent. Even though Chaos Agent doesn't have attack power, he gave my team a huge advantage in this battle.

The opposing team managed to destroy the Chaos Agent in the second round, but 3 monsters from the opposing team were destroyed and things were no longer going well for the opposing team. In other rounds, while my team was destroying targets one by one, the monsters on the opposing team had a hard time inflicting damage on my team and they missed many attacks. That being the case, my team easily won a very tough battle against a powerful team.

Frankly, my team won a battle that I thought would be quite difficult against a powerful team, quite easily thanks to my strategy. The battle lasted for 5 rounds, at the end of the battle all the monsters in the opposing team were destroyed while all the monsters in the team were still alive except for the Chaos Agent. This shows that my strategy is working pretty well. Indeed, sometimes it works much better to strategize according to the opponent rather than the battle ruleset. That's why I like to surprise opponents. I recommend you to watch this wonderful battle from the video or the battle link

My opinion

Of course, it is very important to have powerful cards, but they cannot be very effective in battles alone, so it is in our hands to make them more effective with powerful strategies. I think there is no weak card, every card can be effective in battles when used with a good strategy. I can win many battles, even the hardest battles, when I can review the ruleset of the battle and the last battles of the opposing player and team up with a good strategy. That's why I believe strategy is very important in battles, and that's why I take care to set a very good strategy before the battle. And I'm growing my deck accordingly. And with a good strategy, sometimes it can be very easy to win even very difficult battles, the above battle is an example. In short, there are very few teams that cannot be beaten with a good strategy.

What are your thoughts on the battle? I would be glad if you write your thoughts in the comments.
