Today's coin is part of the larger collection of old Greek coins I mentioned a couple days ago. Click here to read the story of how it ended up on my hands.

First some photos:

So, this little fella is made of copper, weights almost 9.62 g and was minted back in 1882. Despite it's lack of precious metals, it's apparently a nice little treasure worth way more than it's weight in pure copper!

I did some googling and I found it being auctioned in greek sites for prices starting anywhere from 35 to 70 EUROS, and most of specimens seemed to be in much worse condition than mine! Same for ebay. Auctions seem to start from 25ish EUROS, again for specimens in much shittier condition than mine!

Furthermore, last time I checked, the collector's market has taken quite a dip in Greece in the past 10 years thanks to the crisis. So, who knows. Maybe in 10-20 years from now it might be worth some serious $$! For now, I am definitely keeping it! But if a good opportunity arises in the future I might let it go :)

Also, as shown in the photo above, it's sealed by the Greek National Bank along with some other really old coins and the case is in very good condition with only some really minor scratches. My friend @funnel says this possibly increases the value even more! I didn't bother to check the other coins much as I was lazy, but since they are pretty old I have a feeling they themselves hold some value too!

In case you wonder, the front side features  King George I  of Greece and reads "ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ" which translates to "GEORGE I KING OF THE GREEKS. The other reads "ΔΙΩΒΟΛΟΝ 10 ΛΕΠΤΑ" for " DIOBOL 10 CENTS "

Ok, that's enough for today! You can always visit numista to read the boring technical specs!

Enjoyed the post? Check out my other treasures !

All photo's by me, shot with Moto G8+ Plus, not free for reuse. Please contact me first. Or just be an asshole and steal them anyways. It's not like I am gonna sue you.
